+1 I'm thinking of getting it. Depends how up to the task my card is feeling.

What is the next step down in memory ? It would be the 32gig right?

I've had mine for a year. Would not be without it ....

32Gb is slimmer. I have a 32 with a 16GB Micro SD.

takes 2 minutes to start up? is this true?

Banned

is it functional out of the box or is it broken by design like everything else Archos churn out?

I have archos 5g, fully jailbroken, slim design and the most important for me HSDPA Mobile Broadband Module, really pitty that Archos dropped mobile internet from later models, I would upgrade straight away so far I will keep my old Archos 5g

Smiff

can't see it, my old 705 only takes 10 - 12 secs max from cold.

people complain about Archos and the plugin stuff, but so long as you factor that in before you buy they're great great gadgets

No it doesnt take 2 mins to start up :-) Initially the Firmware was buggy however I have to say that I purchased the unit to play Video so never encountered any problems with the early Firmware releases.

The unit is now rock solid. I've had one crash in a year. It's possible to get onto Google Market if you so desire however I have an ipod for Apps so I've never really bothered.

It's nicely made and the screen is lovely and bright. Browsing is a joy. I hardly ever use the laptop now unless I'm having a prolonged surfing session.

Battery life is good.

I've purchased the HD Plugin and also the GPS. HD plugin lets you drop VOB files straight onto the device however you will nee to run the DVD's through DVD Dcrypter or similar first.

GPS is a backup to my Tomtom and has saved my bacon a few times.

The Video playback is second to none. I've yet to throw a video file at the device that it cannot play.

Screen is resistive so dont expect the tactile feedback of say an Ipod but it's sensative enough.

Azaaaaaa

Here here!

Apple will find that there "niche" markets will eventually be crowded with similar products offering better value. It might even consider developing new technologies rather than repackaging older products in different cases...

Very nice
