Fantastic deal for this, comparable to the likes of the Nook Tablet and Amazon Kindle Fire.

The GBook features a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel color TFT display with a capacitive touchscreen, a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. It also has a microSD card slot for extra storage (something vastly lacking from the Kindle Fire)

The tablet gets 8 hours of battery life in “reading mode,” and up to 7 hours of video playback time, also comparable to the Kindle Fire which retails at £129.

This is perfect for anyone considering a low end tablet that primarily wants to use it for the likes of internet browsing, netflix, reading books and magazines, watching videos, music and gaming..fully supporting google's play store and sporting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

Manufacturer refurbished, 6 months warranty.

So you are basing your opinion on an item you purchased that could have been a one off faulty unit and/or a unit before any firmware/software upgrades?

Not a superb deal, looks like they're £53 delivered new from Amazon with 8GB of storage: amazon.co.uk/Arn…ook

TBF I am looking for a cheap pad to keep my little lad entertained whilst going on holiday... so nearly made the plunge till checking out online reviews, most seem to say similar to the above.

crap, save your pennies.
brrrrrrrrrr.........cold.

cicobuff - initially i thought it was just my unit as you suggested in the post however upon return HMV told me they received thousands back after the Christmas period with the same fault.

It will restart for no reason then fail to pick up Wifi making it near impossible to use. I'd save your cash n spend a little more on something that will at least function.

Yeah I would advise people to steer clear of these..
I bought one for £35 and quickly sold it for £20..
It is ok for reading but a Nook would be much better for reading..

Lol theres a reason why they are crap. They're trying to get rid of them because they are load of sh**

Seems to fair ok according to german reviews on Amazon.de so what gives? Amazon.de reviews

Are people actually doing a factory reset as recommended by the manufacturer when they have problems such as reboots?

I wonder if the glut of manufacturer refurbs are through those not taking the initiative?

That applies to any colour tablet, the right tool for the right job.

I read text books on my Sony ereader, as does my wife on her Nook Simple touch. We read magazines on our Blackberry Playbooks. As surely people would on this device.

For those that do read books on tablets though, this would not fair any differently from any other tablet apart from a lesser dpi than higher screen resolutions, there again what ereader has a screen resolution greater than this?, the real advantage obviously is less eye strain with e-ink.

Yeah Eye strain and battery longevity.
The point about reading was made because it struggles with video and semi intensive app's..
It restarts itself sometimes too and also the battery life is poor. Wifii has a habit of disconnecting too (possibly firmware update fix?)
There are many more viable options available at this price point..

Care to post some? As I have said 3.5 out of 5 on Amazon.de customer reviews for a budget tablet comparable to a Barnes & Noble Nook tablet, or Amazon Kindle Fire albeit a lower screen resolution ideal at less than £50 for the kids to watch Netflix, for internet browsing or magazine reading it seems ideal.

As said, I wonder if the glut of these manufacturer refurbished units are ones sent back to the manufacturer because customers never attempted factory resetting their devices when they had problems.

I picked up an open box Cyclone Voyager from Misco for £44 all in. (seems like brand new)
It runs like a rocket compared to the Gbook.

Archos 80 from tesco for £64 is much better option although a little extra cash.
Seriously I would rather gamble with a tablet from focalprice or dealextreme than this tablet.

And yet albeit the vastly superior processor and usual price of £80 it still runs at 800x480 and you were talking about poor reading?

If you ask me if the Gbook runs stable it seems on the money to me for a budget tablet without attempting going down the chinese buying route.

What is this? a **** contest?
I had the Gbook and it was bad. I'm just giving my opinion.
I have a Nook simple touch for Reading and the Sumvision for mobile media.
My point about the reading was to justify it's existence.

The Gbook is slated across the internet and justly so.
However if you want to spend £48.95 on a tablet that can perform menial tasks then go for it.

And yes the screen is the only thing that lets the sumvision down yet for what I paid for it I cannot grumble.

Bought one of these 14/12 to use as an e reader. Installed a kindle account and Booosh hey it works as an e reader. I have used it to access the web and upload items from andriod app store via home wifi no problems. The battery life on the other hand is quite confusing as it has only shown just under 2 hrs of charge available since fully charged and this has gone one for over 2hrs usage !
I bought it as an e reader because it has a built in night feature unlike the lower end kindle readers and intended to just use it for that purpose so i do not require it to have speakers. It is nice however being able to listen to music via headphones whilst reading

And I am giving my opinion...for £48.95 for what you pay the same you cannot grumble. I go by reviews across a cross section of people, not just one person on HUKD voting cold.

Personally (and I have) I paid more and got a Playbook, and wouldn't touch any android tablet with a bargepole because I think even dressed up with Jellybean they perform poorly due to a badly bolted on OS...still does not stop me posting deals I consider to be good value whether or not you disagree...even if I wouldn't go for the deal myself.

Yes and the temperature of this deal is a reflection of just my opinion.

Not everyone can be affording to spend out more than what they can afford, I at least expect to see people coming up with other decent alternatives for £50 than yourself giving out false information by stating it does not come with speakers.

If people can do better than this for £50 start posting the deals I say.

Thanks for the link, I am obviously mistaken then about the speakers, worth considering for anyone that is bothered about using headphones/earphones.

Not a bad spec on the one you linked to, and with a decent warranty, however at only 3 hours battery life would have to be a consideration for travelling.

Try posting it as a deal and seeing how many people rip it apart on its low resolution, and poor battery life as that is what people tend to go for on here rather than price I find.

And yes the Gbook does have 1gb of Ram try googling the specs, it would perform better for internet browsing.

So really, have any better alternative? Seems it has more weaknesses.

i'm not saying people won't rip it apart it happens regulary, believing a tech spec page on some random website means nothing i'd believe the 3 hour battery life from ebuyer over this supposed 7 hour video playback, some of the top spec tablets don't even get that far

That really makes little sense, that is like turning round and saying at £50 the tablet on Ebuyer stating it is a 3 hour battery life will be a lie, it has to be, it is just £50. I wonder if the Gbook would be less of a lie at its RRP, and have closer to the 7 hour stated battery life!
