I used to love Archos. I bought an MP4 player from them like 15 years ago when hardly any manufacturer was making them and was playing movies downloaded onto it. It really was ahead of it's time

seems like a load of phone for the price , rather this than a Motorola g4

That's a lot of phone for the money heat

really decent price. wonder what the chances of an upgrade to nougat would be? not sure of what policy archos have in this area

Is this the same phone that Argos will be selling as Bush branded that was on here last week?

yes.

There are numerous chinese mobile phones on the market right now with similar hardware to the Archos. But the hardware spec is only half the story. Where things go wrong with some of the Chinese cheapies is in the lack of Quality Control in the integration of the hardware and software to provide a first class customer experience. Equally important is on-going support including future updates and unfortunately Archos does not have a good track record in this respect.

I would need to see a full review of the Diamond 2 Plus from a trusted source before splashing the cash. Even assuming a decent review, the Motorola G4 is still tempting because Motorola in common with Samsung and Apple etc demand exacting deliverables from their suppliers, as well as having a stringent QC process prior to releasing a product to the market. As for the Archos, it's fingers crossed....

robertfrancis1975, you should edit your initial post to put some of the main spec in the title - I would put the following:

Octacore, 64+4Gb, fingerprint, 5.5" FHD, Marshmallow, MiscoSD slot, 3000mAh

Ok, but can you suggest a non-Mediatek, UK-sourced phone with similar specs for the money?

Going from previous experience Archos are notorious for not updating firmware on their devices, also the build quality isn't as good as it use to be.

You could always goto Argos and get the Bush Spira x3. I'm not sure how much they are, but they offer extended warranties too.

Then this is a step up it would appear - from the Overview:

"Distinguishing itself by its stone grey back casing and its metal finishes, the ARCHOS Diamond 2 Plus has a true modern look and feel."

Just waiting for the reviews now - hopefully unbiased ones.

I hope they have got better regarding build quality, I have seen inside various Archos devices and they had batteries that were held down with tape, screws missing from motherboards and loose charging ports.

You should read the OP!

You should appreciate that the line about it being the same as the Bush device wasn't there when I posted. :-)

hybrid sim slots............arggggggggg..lol

anyone know how well the GPS works on the newer P10 chips? or even then helio chips? because the older gen MTK67** GPS was so poor it puts me off buying another phone powered by mediatek

P.S states its got a gyro in OP, doesn't state this on gsm or antutu, I don't think it has one, no PoGo!

No. But that's my point. You have good specs, severely hampered my a awful processor. Best paying a little more for a better processor.

Not all bands are supported on 3/4G. Shame really. Also the wifi spec does not mention what it supports, looking around found it supports 802.11 b/g/n, no mention of AC.

NFC is a must these days.

Not sure about NFC being a must these days... whilst it is useful for contactless payment, this usually comes as standard for a lot of credit and debit cards currently. I never use NFC on my phone, hence this phone being a good option for me.

There`s good reason it`s only reached 130 degrees or so. Even with these specs, Archos should price it much, much more budget-friendly, as their brand is carp. (_;)

I find it nigh in impossible to suppress the snigger that forms when I see someone blocking the ticket barrier at a tube station as they try to pay for their tube journey with their phone and it just won't work like it did earlier / yesterday / last week. Usually an Apple phone as well.

Yes. My wife has one. Great phone for the money. I've got a Samsung Galaxy S7 and in many ways the G4 is just as good at the every day stuff.
