I was after a smart phone with 6GB+ memory after having seen its benefit using Nokia 8 Sirocco recently. On a tight budget was considering the Nubia z17 lite and a few Chinese ones that unfortunately do not support All EU bands (B20), when I came across this Archos model launched exclusively for some EU countries, which is a rebrand version of ZTE Nubia Z17s.

I trawled the net, cheapest I could buy was from Amazon France, having checked Amazon Italy, Germany, etc., these are Amazon Warehouse quality phones, so range from used to as new conditions. Please have a look on all these EU Amazon websites and regardless what the listing says with regards to delivery, as long as the seller is Amazon or Amazon Warehouse, they will ship to UK. I used my Natwest Select credit card which offers excellent conversion rate with no charge, so the 262Euro as "very good" model cost me £232 which I think is a great price for this spec used phone.

Archos Diamond Omega/ZTE Nubia Z17s key features:

Dimensions: 147.5 x 72.7 x 8.5 mm (5.81 x 2.86 x 0.33 in)
  • Body: Corning Gorilla Glass front, curved glass back, metal frame
  • Screen: 5.73" LTPS IPS LCD, 1080x2040px resolution (17:9)
  • Chipset: Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset: octa-core 4x2.45GHz Kryo & 4x1.9GHz Kryo; Adreno 540 GPU
  • Memory: 8GB of RAM, 128GB of inbuilt storage
  • OS: Android 7.1; Nubia UI 5.0
  • Rear camera: Dual: 12 MP (f/1.8, 1/2.55", 1.4µm, Dual Pixel PDAF) + 23MP (f/2.0); PDAF; dual-LED, dual-tone flash
  • Front camera: Dual 5MP, f/2.2
  • Battery: 3,100mAh; Quick Charge 3.0
  • Connectivity: LTE Cat.9 (450 Mbps/50 Mbps), dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, USB Type-C port; NFC;
  • Misc: Fingerprint sensor on the rear; DTS-HD audio

Main shortcomings
  • No memory expansion slot
  • No 3.5mm audio jack
  • No stereo speakers

Full specs on this link

I ordered on Friday and its showing delivery tomorrow, so its like 3 working days.

Wireless headphones are a thing. It would be nice for phones to still have the old jacks but the quality of wireless headphones have come so far so fast it doesn't bother me that much.

Oh yeah people will go ahh the quality blah blah but the fact is even with the greatest wired headphones in the universe you're listening to compressed digital music on what amounts to a pocket computer. It's not exactly the environment for snobbery pristine audio...

It's not so much the Quality of sound for me that that is concerning, it's the increased battery drainage with Bluetooth, plus you need to have your wireless earphones charged too.

Can't find any of these on ebay to compare prices.

no 20% warehouse off on these ?
You might want to state that they are used at that price (D'occasion).
Seems to be a lack of uk reviews.. Hope this is a vast improvement on Archos their old stuff was terrible,
I wouldnt buy this for an Archos phone, this is a ZTE Nubia 17s. Look for reviews such as these

What are the odds of relatively quick OTA software updates? Good deal if it isn't dropped by the supplier 5 minutes after launching it.

I just keep forgetting to charge my wireless headphones before my every shift. Thank god I'm able to use the wired ones then with my current phone..
I know this is slightly off topic but does anyone know why the Samsung Galaxy S6 has a 16mp camera and the (newer) S9 only has a 12mp? Correct me if I'm wrong but that is a downgrade...

Well either remember to charge them better like you remember to charge your phone somehow.

OR have one of these power banks with low current discharge for stuff like wireless earphones. Like I do.

There is much to cameras than just megapixel count. Suggest you read around on the subject as it can get involved eg fstop, ccd size etc

If you're desperate can use a usb jack lead. Or get this phone and buy Bluetooth cans? Jack's are being phased out to improve waterproofing AM ngst other things and I suspect days of the 3.5mm jack are numbered

Depends on the quality of the sensor. A great 12mp sensor with good lens will produce cracking pictures. A cheap 40000mp sensor through crap lens will look terrible. 12mp is good for A4 prints so might be a great upgrade especially if the pixels are larger (better low light / slow motion performance)

On new chipsets I haven't seen any significant increase in battery drain with Bluetooth (on a Mate 10 Pro at the moment) and my headphones have a 14 hour playback so it doesn't bother me - I haven't missed my headphone jack once.

The amazon listing seems to show its a 2017 model in the description and archos' own site shows it unavailable but they have a link to a 2017 YouTube video (maybe a different model ? ) so probably not getting many updates

Dont know if i should say thanks for making me part with my money but you've all swayed me to buying the S2, cos this Archos is out of my budget
I have been using the phone since today morning and I must say I am quite happy with it. The "Very good" was as good as new, no marks whatsoever, came in original box (quite disappointed with the quality) with accessories.

When I switched it on, it boots up as Nubia Z17s, no Archos branding or bloatware found anywhere in the OS, which would suggest standard Nubia Global firmware. As soon as I connected the phone to internet it wanted to upgrade which is usually a good sign, following which I have customised the phone as per my preferences. All apps I downloaded fine, calendar was not syncing with my preferred Gmail account, re- adding the account seem to have fixed the issue. Using banking apps and a few others, didn’t give any trouble, ran Antutu 3d it beat 99% of the devices, don’t know how credible that info is but sounds good. Battery seem to run fine, not highly impressive. Only -ve I see is its very slippery.

Bigger apertures to let in more light, bigger pixel sizes and better sensors equals a massive upgrade.in all round performance.
I'm I read somewhere that Oreo had been released.
Considering its not actually made by Archos I will bite, pretty good specs. Ordered for a 'very good' for £245.
