Where the other post went, BTW? And why I just received notification that it was branded as 'SPAM - Archos Multimedia Player £114.87'???

I think the other post was posted after yours, so in effect it was 'spam'. It was removed I believe.

This looks rather good. Does anybody understand how you get photos on to if from a Canon 350d or a compact digital?

Original Poster

It got USB host port, so in theory you just connect your digicam to it and it'll move pictures to its disk. Whether it works in practice, I do not know

Looks a good deal Kommunist,

Does anyone know if this will play my Divx or Xvid films that I usually play on my DVD player at home? I'm looking for a decent portable video player that can also be plugged into a TV if required.

Thanks

Original Poster

Reviews on Amazon say it does play Divx, but I guess you might need to re encode it in case your specific file doesn't work.

remember quidco

I have the original 402 (without camcorder), and it plays the majority of my DIVX movies. Took it on holiday with me and it was superb, used on the plane, and hooked it up to the hotel TV as well

Also would love to know where they get 2.3 inches as the width. 10.6 Cms is 4.2 inches.

It should read:-

Yes, I just was surprised why it was regarded as spam

The only way we can physically remove a post from the hot deals forum is to click the spam button, which moves it to a holding forum (other than physically deleting it, which we rarely do, so as to keep posts for future reference).

rizla01 - Don't be offended, we're not calling you a spammer.

Kommunist, what do you mean you got notification that it was spam?

After you clicked 'spam' button I received the following email:

emmajk42 has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - SPAM - Archos Multimedia Player £114.87 - in the Testing forum of HotUKDeals Forum.

Here is the message that has just been posted:

I see, thanks for the reply

If anybody is undecided as to whether to get this or not I would recommend it you get it asap.

I bought one of these about a year ago (non camcorder version) and I couldn't live without it now.

I went back back home for two weeks over the christmas period and would have literally nothing to watch without it. I just copied across some Xvid files I had downloaded before I went.

It's also a great mp3 player, puts my other half's iPod video to shame in every respect.

for just £50 (or so) more you can get this from Amazon.
4" Screen and 40 Gb but no camera.

if thats of any help to anyone.

Why do I want one of these? I have a very good MP3 player, a PDA, a Smart Phone, 2 digital cameras, a Flashttracks thingy, a portable DVD player.. but I still want one.

Madness.

As joconner said i would recommend anyone considering this product to buy it1

I purchased the non camcorder version over 2 years ago and still think its the best mp3/mp4 player ive come across.

The sound quality is great, I encode all my videos to .avi and play em thru the tv at perfect quality.

A massive bonus is that theres a big online communitu dedicated to the 400 series and they have tweaked firmware and thanx to them i now have a nes/gameboy/gamegear/megadrive emulator on my system, so when im on the train, i play sonic :D.

hope this is helpful

Andy

P.S. (www.gmini400.com was the community site i referred to earlier but the sites seems to be down atm)

Thanks for the helpful post jimerson Welcome to the forums.

This looks good.I'm interested mainly in using it as a camcorder.Has anyone seen the video camera quality or seen any examples on the net? Is the quality up there with images from a traditional mini-DV tape based camera?

I wouldn't think so. Nothing can substitute good lens
And there is no full PAL (720x576) recording but rather VGA (640x480). And no optical zoom.
So, in my opinion, camcorder part of it is just a gimmick, just like on mobile phones.

It was not possible to transfer files from the Gmini 400 to the CompactFlash card, presumably to discourage sharing of media files amongst Gmini users.
