Sorry dont know how that posted twice

Cold... sorry but these tabs are really poor and have their own app store not GOOGLE PLAY !

It's funny that they're known as a bad brand and yet hudl and hudl 2 are so popular on here.... Guess who makes them.... Archos.

Bought and returned 2 archos tablets (one was gamepad 2). Both felt like they could be snapped by bending, had stuck pixels and bad backlight bleed.

This a very old tablet now and whilst it will still do a job for many tasks, for £49 it's just not good value in todays market.

The real issue is Archos have always tended to have a two tier strategy with their products that they have repeated for well over a decade.

Cheapest - Usually like this, low performance, compromised components and not all that well put together aka things like this deal.

Most expensive - Usually good middle ground specs but then priced to match top tier models. Then usually crippled by other legacy Archos nuisances such as no access to the correct app store or in the case of their MP3 players where they required an additional key to be purchased to unlock all the features. However, at the same time they tend to be well put together but still too expensive to compete with anything else in the same price bracket as a result of being a middle ground specification in the premium price segment.

They seem to me to have never gotten out of the stupid pricing system they used in their DAP days and as a result make a name for themselves as they sell lots more of cheap ones and end up with lots of negative press. As to the price of this, I think there are better options all things considered for the same or slightly more cash.

A decent overview of it here, do note that it's been updated to 4.0 from what it would have originally come with of 2.3. Also that screen res is not going to be earth shattering as I suspect this has the same screen as a variety of netbooks that were popular at the time this came out.

voted cold because its an archos with shockingly poor customer service....
deal may be good in comparison.. but an archos aint worth it....

I have one. love it!!! and it DOES use Google play! !!! Best tablet I've had (i keep breaking them) love it!!! heat!!!

I thought this looks a good deal? But then again I'm not tech savvy. Although I do have an Archos 70 that's lasted me 3 years with no problems. Google Play was pretty simple to load on.

Does anyone know of a tablet that I could buy for a similar price that has better specs please? Or would this be suitable for a basic user?

I'm looking for a 10 inch (ish) tablet for my mother, who'll just use it for Facebook and maybe a free bingo game/app.

Thanks.

Bought it from GAME for ten pound more about 3 months ago for my 88 year old mother - she loves it - uses e-mail / Facebook and YouTube as well as Google and she has not broken it yet despite her best attempts :-) hot...

have to say i had the archos cobalt was ok in its day, but have to agree Archos such a bad company. Even their great archos player app on the android doesn't work on most archos devcices, makes no sense to me. as a stanalone video player/library it blows everything else out of the water.

They were £300 when new. And dropped down to £99 in firesale when they were discontinued. They were discontinued several years ago now. Best bet is to find a used one as a mint used one will usually have Android installed by now and sit around the £50 mark.
