The ultimate Islay single malt Scotch whisky

Non Chill-Filtered
Ardbeg is considered by whisky Connoisseurs to be not only the Best of the Islay malt whiskies but The Best Whisky in the World.

Ardbeg is Islay, Islay is Ardbeg
The Ardbeg Distillery lies on the most southerly part of Islay and on the rugged shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
Islay is an antique land. Where Celtic monks found refuge raiding Norsemen and early distillers smuggled their illicit 'aquavitae' at Ardbeg's rocky cove. Where the Lords of the Isles ruled much of Scotland between the 12th and 15th centuries - the clan kings whose bloodline continued through the Macdougalls of Ardbeg, the founders of our great and noble whisky. Islay's history is Ardbeg's heritage. The island's past lives in our present.

Ardbeg is revered around the world as the peatiest, smokiest, most complex whisky of them all. Yet it does not flaunt the peat; rather the peat gives way to the malt, the natural sweetness of which subtly intrudes, producing perfect balance. The unusual spirit still with its purifier, the only one of its kinds on Islay, is what many believe contributes to this balance and complexity, making Ardbeg the malt to which all others aspire ....truly the Ultimate Islay Malt.

Typically most whiskies are chill-filtered and reduced to a strength of 40% abv. Ardbeg 10 years old, however, is non chill-filtered and has a strength of 46% abv, thus retaining maximum flavour, at the same time giving more body and added depth. On adding water a little cloudiness may occur which is perfectly natural and is not a matter for concern.

The Untamed Spirit of Islay

"Unquestionably the greatest distillery to be found on Earth. If perfection on the palate exists, this is it."
Jim Murrays, "The Complete Book of Whisk

Ardbeg, Laphroaig & Lagavulin are ALL the ultimate Islay single malt in their own way

Ardbeg isn't the best - just one of 3 equals

Low price if you enjoy a good strong tasting peaty whisky. Not to everyone's taste though

Great price but not sure about the best whisky in the world! It’s actually one of my least favourite whisky but that doesn’t mean this isn’t a hot deal!

It got dangerous smell n taste
Please do not gift 🎁 anyone unless fan of this.

Not quite sure if really the best, definitely not for everyone. But worth trying if you like peated malts. Heat added.

Ardbeg is superb. Prefer Laphroaig but a superb dram nonetheless.

I just wish it was on offer more often! Superb Islay malt.

This is right up my street. The more peat smoke the better for my taste

Agreed I like and own Laphroaig and Caol Ila so it’s not like I don’t like peaty whisky but this one is an acquired taste! My friend loves it though but he only drinks mainly Islay where as I’m more a fan of old pulteney 12 as my go to whisky...good as it’s often on offer more then any of the Islay! Did pick up the Laphroaig 10 for £25 from amazon on here the other day though..

Laphroaig a far better deal at £12 cheaper than this, both 10 year old.

A small reduction but every little helps. Heat.

they sit side by side as you fly in to Islay, they are geographically about 1 mile apart along the coastline

they use the same water, peat & methods

they have different recipes (so to speak) but they are all excellent & difficult to say one is better than the other unless defined by age & personal preference

Also on Amazon out of stock at the moment but same price for prime customers

In your opinion. I have 2 Laphroaig expressions, 2 Lagavulin and the Ardbeg 10. Ardbeg hands down for me, well worth the extra £12. The £80+ Octomore was my least favourite Islay. I'd steer clear of that one!

In plenty of people's opinions judging by how hot Laphroaig gets @ £25 to how hot or quite often cold Ardbeg gets @ £37.

There is no one best whisky on a person by person basis...my preference is the same as yours but I know a lot of people who love Ardbeg...for instance my favourite product out of Islay I've had is actually Bruichladdich Laddie 22 Year Old....unpeated but superb..

Does that mean baileys is better than both then?

Love them both. Ardbeg is the superior for me, as it is non chill filtered , cask strength, natural coloured and more complex. But like Matty says you pay a premium for that over Laphroiag 10yo. Laphroiag 10yo is 5 out of 5 for value for money and 4 out of 5 for the whisky. Ardbeg is the other way around.

All personal opinion of course. Waiting for that xmas sub £30 Laphroiag QC deal which will trump both.

Yes pretty much, prefer Ardbeg and would definitely choose if they were the same price.

Lagavulin beats them both IMO, hopefully see a rare reduction before Christmas.

Oh yeah . Fingers crossed

Last year the Lagavulin Distillers Edition was on fairly regular lighting deals at Amazon in the run up to Christmas.

Yes you pay a premium over the regular bottlings, but what a fantastic whisky it is
