LOL. I've been in your situation before with other products on deal of the day. Sometimes, I'll think you only live once during the evening and when I go to buy it, it's sold out!

There Bebop coming up (with oculus rift support) but the competition from DJI and china is also strong. GoPro are also rumored to be launching drones soon. You will enjoy it, but it won't hold value for long...

This is the quadcopter than can only be controlled with a tablet. You can't use a proper remote with joysticks. You'd need to be looking down at a screen all the time when you should be keeping an eye on your drone. My son would turn his nose up at this unfortunately. Good price, but still a toy with gimmicky and tricky 'tablet' control.

Can also be controlled with a phone

Controlling with a phone is just as useless. You need joysticks so that you can feel the position of the controls while looking at the drone. These buggers go so fast that you could easily crash while looking down to reposition your fingers over an on-screen wheel graphic, or such like.

If you want to try a cheaper quadcopter first then go for the Syma X5c or JJRC H8C from china (BangGood or GearBest). These can be purchased for £40 including camera and micro sd card. They are robust and are a perfect starter quad for learning control in and out of the house. They dont have GPS or any auto altitude features but help to learn how to fly before buying something more expensive.

But surely the new drones will be twice the price?

There becomes a point where the old model with a good discount is still a fun purchase.

Can wait forever for that next model. Always going to be buying something obsolete in this world.

229.006 euros (shopsoiled?) but repacked by Amazon.de. Delivered free in one to two weeks. No import duties or tax, I presume, YMMV

Ordered on impulse and now cancelled, the battery that comes with the elite only lasts 8-10 mins, thats just not enough

    Still hot for price reduction.

Isn't there something like a joystick thingy which you can attach to the phone etc
I think I swa something like that on the awful gadget show but it was just for right and left.

To be fair 8-10 minutes is about average for a quad this size/quality. You could probably fit a higher capacity battery, but the extra weight also eats into the flying time and both put more stress on the motors.

these things look really cool but the 10 minute flight time is really underwhelming. definitely a deal breaker.

Some of the reviews say the battery lasts up to 30 mins?

Extremely unlikely from a single 1000mAh battery. There is a 'Power' version which uses 2 x 1500mAh batteries and has a 30 min flight time. That's not this one. This is the 'Elite'.

Ok thanks. I think I'll save up for the Bebop instead having watched a few videos of it in action!
