I bought one of these shelves a couple of weeks ago, but in a different colour. The quality of them is quite good, only problem with it was there were no fittings :? Good price for this, heat added

Ideal if you live in a flood area.

Knowing my luck it'a have a hole in it.:w00t:

Poor reviews on Argos. Suggests it is a poor product and difficult to fix.

Sorry cold - fitted some of these (not from Argos) and they don't stay level.

Stick to standard shelving with normal brackets.

By "no fittings" do you mean no brackets or no screws? I don't think the one I bought had screws with it either. Good for the price but not too happy with the shelf personally, has the feel of a posh cereal box

One of the reviews on Argos I read stated that people should spend a little more and get ones from b&q which were much better, so maybe not all floating shelves are the same

Yeah, it didn't have any brackets or screws at all :? I was quite surprised because they usually provide them. I agree that it is good for this price, but the shelf I bought said that it was originally £25 or something silly like that and there is no way that it is worth that

The Argos reviews are very poor. However the price is low.
Does anyone know how the quality compares with the Ikea Lack shelves? I fitted some of those & they seem quite good. £9.99 for a 110 cm length @ Ikea v £3.99 for 80cm at Argos.

I have both the Ikea and argos ones and would have to say the ikea ones are much better and can hold more weight.

typically out of stock in my area, but a good find so have some heat and rep :-)

I saw this yesterday along with this colour which is 4.99

My local focus has shelves of this type in two different colours for around this price (not sure, as I wasn't particularly looking for shelves at the time) also some glass ones too (not floating). Couldn;t comment on whether the quality is as good as B&Q/better than argos.

LOL! Nice, rep left

And voted hot on the deal

I bought 3 of these last week for my dvd's. After studying the instructions carefully (1 sheet, not difficult) I confidently strode on to install the shelves. After 2 hours of messing about with the poor quality fixings I decided to glue and screw them to the wall as the fixings were less than adequate. As wee speak the shelves are beginning to bow under the weight of 20 dvd's. I bought some others from B and Q a few months ago which were much better in quality and fixings. Only buy if you have patience, glue, screws, light things to put on and, just in case, a local a & e

Lol :giggle:
I am starting to worry slightly now about actually getting the shelf on the wall after reading a few comments on here :? I am still in the middle of decorating the room that my shelf is going into so I have not attempted to put it up yet. Perhaps I should maybe just go and buy some new shelves from somewhere else and save myself the hassle, lol

Seemingly they are for decorative purposes rather than to hold any weight.

I have the same type of shelf, but i can't remember if i bought it originally from Argos or not, either way i've only got ornaments on mine, nothing weighty.

i bought some of these from Argos

what a nightmare the mounting brackets welds broke so i ended up buying B&Q yes there a lot more but a lot better quality and much easier to fit

i would not waste my money

Dont worry folks. All your fears are unfounded. I dont have a problem with the excess weight of the dvd's now. The shelf bowed, groaned and the dvd's fell off. Gonna build ma self a better shelf I think.

I have the B&Q ones with a stereo, speakers and my skull collection (pot and metal ones) on and have faith in their strength, a couple of weeks ago got similar looking ones from Argos and wouldnt even trust them with an empty CD case on, straight back they went, the wholes where the brackets fit through on these are just supported at each end of the "pole" and with lots of play in them,

The B&Q ones the "poles" slide through a continuous hole in a block of wood within the shelf, the brackets (these have 2 seperate ones) themselves on these I would say have a backing plate of slightly bigger than a 2p coin and a rod similar size to a pencil wich fastens into a cam, so not much against the leverage of the shelve, the B&Q one fastens most of the shelves width against the wall so much more sturdy these are held simply by a push fit between bracket and shelf but feel sturdy.

Seems from all the comments here that the Argos ones are really rubbish. A shame that this deal has gone hot and perhaps persuaded people to buy the Argos products - hopefully others will have read these comments and those on the Argos site explaining that the products are poor - difficult to fit and not at all useful.

I never will trust 'floating' shelves again - bought B&Q last year and ended up supporting them with undershelf brackets eventually! The shelf weight, despite adjustments within the bracket system, pulled the level downwards. Fortunately it was in the utility room - I would have been devasted had all this been experienced in a living area!
