Good deal..

I have this set. Chairs are very wobbly and the leather effect fabric is very thin and damages easily. Tables sturdy though. Good price but probably best for occasional use.

Shouldn't have to pay £8.95 for delivery. The whole Argos business model is to have things you want available to pick up right away. They're effectively penalising you for their storage/logistics shortcomings.

On the other hand £8.95 for the delivery of 5 items is not a bad price.

Do you expect them to lose a couple of chairs?

If you were to work out how much in diesel or petrol it would cost you to get to argos and then pay parking if you needed to then £9 isnt that bad also you dont have to worry about humping it around.

Well said chuff

@chuf, my point is you should be given a choice. I'm 5 mins away from my local Argos so it wouldn't cost me more than £1 max on diesel. And these things are flat packed they're no big deal to 'lug around'. By not giving you the choice, they are essentially making you pay for something that should've cost them directly if they stocked it in store. And I bet they're margin on these are pretty high as well.

Depends how close you are.. they're everywhere - probably not 10 quids worth of petrol away from most people

Buy something off the Bid channel on tele and you'll pay £7.99 for p&p on a pair of earrings... £8.95 isnt that bad for all this!

have similar one from homebase in our conservatory .....its good value but after a few weeks chairs squeak like mad

Haha, I've got an ML. Do you even know what that is? or do you think everyone has supermini? I'm talking about being given the CHOICE. I wouldn't go in to IKEA only to be told I can't take a flat-packed furniture home and must instead pay an extra £X.XX for it to be delivered?

Is this actually oak? Just wondering if Texas Oak is some sort of euphemism for chipboard trademarked by some company

no its not oak, well about 1mm layer of it is oak, underneath is rubberwood

At least its solid wood I suppose

It's cheap and cheerful, looks smart and undoubtedly suits a lot of people, for the money it's a great deal .............

I got this for a similar price when I moved into my new house last year. Great value for money. Looks nice. Comfy chairs.

Very hot, excellent value. Ordered!

Dont forget, if you damage it / your car / the door whilst moving it, you are liable. If Argos deliver and damage it / your door / painting they are responsible. Liability insurance is VERY expensive. In fact, you can be sure it will cost Argos more to deliver this than they charge. And why take up half the stores stock room with one of every table/chair set, when you fit a million toasters in the same space? TBH, even if I lived next door to Argos, I`d prefer to pay them to bring it into the house.

No, its solid wood with a oak vaneer

As I said on the 4 seater thread, I have had this set for over a year now and it's still in perfect condition - the whole set feels strong and sturdy and is well worth this price. It is used at least 3 times a day at mealtimes and is also used for homework, playing games and the like. We have two children using the table but I just insist on them using placemats and coasters to protect the tabletop.
Hope this helps someone

Great find. I have been after a cheap set after the wife tried to get some marker pen off our oak table with nail varnish remover. She was then surprised the varnish on the table dissolved. I kid you not.

my wife bought the black glass top version of this and now i have to live with it for a few years. i wish she bought this one much nicer solid wood oak. lovely but anyway they are good quality better than normal chipboard stuff... just wary about the price was ever £550?

Was about to buy....then double checked the length and realised its too large for my kitchen...dammit!
