ONLY FOR PEOPLE TRAVELLING DISTANCE IN WALES (and some parts of England)

I will use my travel as as guide and it's a little complicated but here goes:

I like to fish and I live in Barry so checked out a price to Llandudno which is the other side of Wales.

A return there is short of £100 but with arrivas 10 year anniversary they are offering a return anywhere on the network for £10.

Here's the catch: you have to have a monthly ticket to qualify:

Here's the glitch: if I buy a monthly for one stop its £28 ... Then plus the £10 for a return anywhere and it's then £38 for a return to Llandudno ...but if I bring a friend which I usually do while fishing I can add a return for him for an extra £10 which makes it £48 ......

Half each means we can get a return to Llandudno for £24 each and I still have a monthly to the next stop as well.... This deL can be used till April 5th as long as it's booked before the 29th march....

Hope that makes sense I know it's long winded but it means me and my mate can fish their overnight as ticket can be open ended and cost us £48 instead of nearly £200

Great post , for travellers in Wales.

Lol hello fellow barrian.... Fishing here's poor cos it's just. Large river I'm fishing lol.... Saw this and can't see anything in terms and conditions to say that by having a monthly for one stop invalidates your use... As stated runs out end of March but that's 2 months away

my GF has a monthly to cardiff, if this works i shall have to go away for a weekend, £10 is nice and cheap.

What's ya name pyroe... Pm me I might even know ya lol

£10 is valid anywhere on the Arriva Trains network for up to two adults and three children as long as one of those travelling has a monthly season ticket. Not very well advertised at stations. Lasts until early April.

I buy a monthly ticket every month... Could really use this.
Cheers op

good post - thanks

so is it arriva or arrival?

also barry to llandudno return £100,you could fly from cardiff to holyhead for half that return.(a quarter if you book early).

The first line of the original post states only for people travelling distance in Wales, however on the Arriva website it states "travel anywhere on the Arriva Trains Wales network" which does include routes in England, including to Birmingham and Manchester so it may be useful for some others.

Wales uses the pound...? Wow, who knew...

oggy,oggy,oggy

So that means the Welsh could invade England. Lock up your daughters.

Arrival trains???

I hate to be a grammar Nazi, but people really should know by adulthood that you capitalise names, i.e Barry, Cardiff etc.

Also from Barry but I cant say I've ever heard of a Barrian, always been a Barryite !

Anyhoo, nice to see a way to get one over the train operators and their usually ridiculous prices, well done, HEAT !

Don't fish North shore waste of time and effort this time of year. Head to The Colwyn Bay end the little Orme and fish here in the weed(rotten bottom tackle ideally). You may pick up a decent codling along here down to Penrhyn bay harbour.

Interesting post and well done op.

Good for Stacey, not so good for Gavin

Hmm ... interesting......

Looking to go to North Wales from Llanelli in March. So are you saying if I buy any old Monthly pass ( Say Llanelli to Gowerton is shortest ) , then both myself and my friend could then book tickets to North Wales for £10 each ?

Original Poster

That's the idea Talon..... No where in the terms and conditions does it state otherwise .... Just says a monthly between to stations ..... Some people only need to travel one station so I don't see how they could not honor it !!

Newport to manchester £73 x 4 £292 with this deal £77 for all Deal

O2 Priority Moments are also offering National Express bus travel to anywhere in the UK on a Tuesday/Wednesday for £10 each way...

The shortest monthly pass would be Cardiff Central to Cardiff Queen st or Wrexham General to Wrexham Central ,both about half a mile ...about £16 i think

Original Poster

Well done Simon didn't even think of shortest routes being cheaper just thought it was the same station to next station .... In that case our tickets would only be £36 for 2 £18 each .... Sweet

£18 each not bad at all! What if you cancel? Can you get a partial refund if you cancel the monthly after the trip?
