If you enjoy anything to do with the following and havent seen this movie yet, please check it out:

Determinism vs fate
Non linear cause and effect
Observation vs control
World politics/conflict
Surrealism
Mind bending narrative devices
Self doubt to sudden eurekas
Non humanoid life
Linguistic nuances
Recontextualisations and reappraisal of plot

The soundtrack to this is as heavy hitting and powerful as the emotional track of the characters. The visuals are astounding especially when you consider the relatively small budget (for a scifi) of 40 million. Villeneuve to my mind is like the Spielberg of moody heightened reality filmscapes and I love all of his work. This one is for me top tier alien encounter movie.

Just dull

Hmmm... Questions about existentialism, how we deal with suffering and our place in the universe are pretty "dull" I guess... Are you the type of person who struggles with subtitles?

I fear that is beyond some of the posters here.

Why?

No giant lasers destroying everything in sight, I would guess.

That initial section with Max Richter's "on the nature of daylight" breaks me every time I watch it... Absolutely beautiful piece of art that transcends it's medium

Agreed. Loved Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario, Arrival and BR 2049. Can't wait to see what he'll do with Dune.
Has the sequel “Departure” been released yet?
Horribly dull and slow movie, the aliens were the best at acting

Does that mean every movie with a decent idea is a good movie, regardless of how bad it was made, or how dreary it was, or how badly it was acted? I agree with Lord Trump here, the concept was good and had potential, the delivery was just soooooooooooooooo dull

Fair enough - Give me some examples of good films in your opinion then...

Well made film. I just found the whole premise a big let down. I imagine anybody with a strong interest in science would.
Fantastic film.

Not sure that we watched the same film if you thought Amy Adams' acting wasn't amazing.
Great film - enjoyed it...
You have to be on a certain wave length to find films like this interesting. It has a way deeper meaning that just a film, it’s about life.

The song to this film gets me every time..

50 pence more than a rental. Bit of a bargain in my book.

Yeah, I appreciated the twist, and thought it was well plotted, but was slightly disappointed for the same reason

Low bitrate? Poor encode? Or just the grading doesnt lend itself to HDR?

If you're a movie fan like me, you might prefer 4K24p to 1080i50 (I detest PAL speedup), and HD audio vs Dolby Digital Plus.

It's just a very dark film by design. Same on disc.

I loved it and love cosmology and other sciences (not a pro just a fan). What for you was a let down (if you can say without spoiling )

He is a troll. His post history was awful and he hasn’t had this account for long. Likely why his account is now suspended.

I'm curious as someone who hasn't yet got HDR, does it help with dark scenes, I heard it helps bring out more details in shadow (content grading dependent of course)

I didn't say you're opinion was wrong did I? We all appreciate different things... I like things that make me think and question who I am, the nature of suffering and making a choice to keep a child even though you are aware of their mortality... You like explosions
