Try being a Newcastle or Sunderland fan for a few years, Arsenal fans.
THEN you'll understand what "underachieving" "disappointed" "let down by players" and "incessant abuse from media" REALLY is

Just like a drowning man grasps a straw we grasped that. But could you … Just like a drowning man grasps a straw we grasped that. But could you imagine any team in the top half of the Prem consider a Championship trophy - essentially a reward for promotion -as a top domestic trophy its not even on a par with the much maligned League Cup which still has standing in the game.

Belittling winning the Championship is not fair. You still had to compete against 23 other teams to win it. It is worth celebrating. The fact that there are Newcastle fans that don't celebrate this shows a level of expectation that is unjustified. You have a massive stadium, massive fan base but that shouldn't bring any guarantees. Everything is earned and success on any level should be celebrated.

I can better that one , I'm a Boltonian fan , when we get a throw in or a corner we celebrate like it's a goal and the only team I have seen where you could buy a top boasting a score draw on the front n back (true story)

Happily swap places with your team mate. 4th isn't "falling apart"
We Newcastle fans are labelled (ridiculously) as "delusional" by the national media for believing a team with a 50,000 average should be in top half of table - we've never "claimed" any other - and at least win a trophy every decade or so (Yet same media seem to think it's right and proper for teams with HALF our attendance to think that - Aston Villa being their favourites in this regard) Sunderland fans ask even less. Just to be in top half

    Fair comment.

Oxford, Luton, Coventry, Wimbledon, Portsmouth and Wigan have all lifted domestic trophies since we (Newcastle) won the fairs/UEFA cup.

I'm resigned to the fact that I'll never see Newcastle lift a trophy in my lifetime. Thought we had it in 96 when we were 12 points clear of Man Ure.

You lifted a trophy in 2010 (Championship)

    Fair comment.

Incidentally - I have no animosity towards Arsenal fans -it was mentioned by MANY Newcastle fans that Arsenal and Liverpool were the ONLY fans who had commiserations for Newcastle fans when we got relegated in 2009 while the rest (Aston Villa especially celebrated hysterically) were keen to put the boot in - and the media were ecstatic.
    Never understood why

You get the chance to win the championship every 2 years.
    Quit complaining.

    Lot to complain about.
Who else with similar attendances has NOT won a domestic trophy for 60 years PLUS ?
Everton fans wail the place down and believe they have a "right" to be top 4 - and have won trophies every decade or so which would do me - and all NUFC fans. Liverpool fans are turning on Klopp because of an uncomfortable stutter in 4th. Even the media think thery have a right to be challenging for the title.
Notice how "Buying success" doesn't get used by media anymore ? And Man City fans, the biggest users of the term have stopped using it too because thats how they have got theirs (apparently the arabs who bought out Man City were going to buy Newcastle but Ashley wouldn't sell at a reasonable rate) Chelsea too of course. Man U spend as much as any and anything less than trophies galore ? Ask Moyes & Van Gaal. No "delusion" from the press.
Any of those put a Championship (2nd Division) trophy in the Trophy cabinet you think ?

"Expectation" ? Do you hear any team boasting about winning the 2nd Division whilst in the Prem ?
ANY team ? Did Spurs, West Ham, Aston Villa, Sunderland, and yes, Newcastle repeatedly go on about their pride in a lower league win ? Nope.
Its a stepping stone to bigger things, no more. Its a death trap and horrendously hard to get out of, sure enough but NOT a guarantee of staying in the top league as seen by the number who go straight back if not immediately but within 2-3 seasons
I'm not belittling it.Just seeing it for what it is
