Asda - 1TB WD 3.5" External HDD - £36.99

After driving an hour round trip and being let down with the Aldi HDD offer, I stopped off in Asda and low and behold I found an offer (almost) just as good. Its £7 more and only USB 2.0 BUT its a great offer, and is a branded HDD.

Reduced from £59.99 - so seems like a very good offer!

its a western digital drive... so western digital?
looks like the elements model. The 2GB one stays very cool and quiet
+ there is NO built-in WD SmartWare software which takes up space which I despised.
I got annoyed with driving to 2 Aldi stores searching for the HDD too! BIG let down so I'll have to drive to an ASDA & see if it brings any luck to me
might be worth having a look on ebay - my buddy bought a 2tb one for £39 - think theres a few left on there

Yes, it's on Ebay but is it too good to be true? a) Private Seller, selling over 200 Uniits with 600 units still remaining?? b) All Sold within last 2 days c) Quoting 9-15 days shiping from UK? d) No Active feedback since 2008, currently 0.0%? ....saw a similar 'Too Good to be True Offer' on Ebay with Half-Price Ugg Boots, Would love to be proved Wrong?

The one on Ebay is a 2tb Western Digital for £39 delivered.

From a seller who has no feedback since September 2008 nad has sold over 200 in the last couple of days, delivery from outside the UK in 9-15 days.

Sounds like a scam IMO

...forgot to mention, listing ends in 5 days, shipping 9-15 days = enough time for to do a potential 'Prestige'
Has anybody found this online in asda ? It says out of stock so shouldn't it be marked as instore only ?
So after the Aldi goose chase this morning i went on another one to Asda this evening!
I'm giving up on instore deals from now on!

If you're gonna end up paying more on petrol than you'd save, it's not worth doing.

This is exactly why I dont do instore deals, e.g. nearest ASDA is 5 Miles away, so 10 mile round trip. That equates to about £1.50 in fuel for me. Thats not bad but it soon adds up. Especially when its a Tesco deal, nearest Extra store is a 20 mile round trip.

Unless I need to go anyway, its not worth it.
A good price for this drive, i paid £49 about 2 months back at currys when they were on offer to hook up to the wii. great piece of kit
is this USB powered?
cubed

is this USB powered?

no, mains powered
Nothing on the shelves at Asda @ Portrack Lane (Middlesbrough) and a display box at Teesside Park Asda Living but price-checked at £59.97 and none actually in stock anyway.
Bournemouth is only useful for a holiday (if it's sunny) as I have never been able to get any Asda offers here. Aldi were out of stock & Asda say they don't even stock hard drives in any of the Bournemouth stores.
another in-store supermarket deal that only the op has found ?

None in my local Asda, has anyone but the OP seen one of these?

..Listing 'Removed' 03 July 2011. A Potential gross of £31,000 or so! You have to wonder why someone would think about buying from a Non-Business Seller with 0.0% Feedback, A Seven day listing of approx 800 Units to sell, quoting 2 Weeks delivery, and no activity for 3 Years..!?? 'Dormant Accounts' Beware...
Might well order me one of these...think of all those "special interest" films i can stick on this!!! Woohoo!!!!!
My local Asda has the 1TB in stock but scanning at £59-99p!
Oh well...always another offer to look out for....
Just phoned through my local, Rochester, store to enquire on stock availability. They confirmed that they had stock but it is priced it at £59.99 not £36.99. I queried the price and they checked with the store manager. After speaking with their manager and checking their computers, the lady confirmed that they had no record of it ever being reduced or in the sale. I asked her to run it through the till, which she did and it came out at £59.99. This was the only 1TB product Asda sold for £59.99. The sales lady i spoke to said that the person who got it for £36.99 was very lucky as it looks like it was an in store pricing error.

So after chasing around various Aldi's over the weekend and ringing around various Asda's today i am sorry to say i am back searching for a good deal on a external drive.
