ASDA Car Screenwash Concentrate - 5 Litres for £2.50

Found 20th Nov 2013
Called into ASDA yesterday having woken to frozen screen washers on my car due to a lack of winter screenwash in the washer bottle.

I noticed on the way in that the 2.5 Litre bottles of ASDA own brand screenwash concentrate were on sale at £1.85 but along with their de-icer sprays there is currently a buy 2 for £2.50 deal on....so that's 5 Litres for £2.50 .... with colder weather coming this has to be an essential purchase & a good deal.

Please note, this is the concentrate which you mix with water, do not confuse with many shops who sell their screenwash ready mixed as that is a false economy

How good is it ? I've used this type of stuff before and it always freezes around -1 or so.

The only stuff I've used that didn't freeze was from Lidl that has a freezing temp of -65 !

I was tempted for this but no accurate testing results stated on the label so you might as well use washing up liquid I went for the Lidl tested to -60 and made in Germany-enough said

corred1964 pour some of it in to a bottle cap and put into freezer to see how good it is and come back to us in few hours time with results

I used this asda stuff last winter with a 50/50 dilution and it never froze in my car...... admittedly I live in the milder south west, but we still had sub zero temps last winter.

My asda hasn't got a car wash

This is concentrate so the more water you add the weaker it gets, usually 2 part or 3 parts water should be OK, so in effect you get 10-15ltrs diluted.
Sure some are comparing with ready diluted as corred1964 states :-(

I'd say only just worth it. If you buy the concentrate from Sainsburys for £1.50 and 5 2L bottles of still water at 20p then you can get 10L concentrate mix for the same price. Just saying!

This is fine for summer use but when it gets to -5 or so, I have found that it doesn't work too well. I kept a bottle in the boot of the car and it turned slushy so if you do buy this don't dilute it in the harsh winter!

That's not funny!......It's priceless!! Brilliant!

I was advised not to use these own brand products by a mechanic as they are renowned for blocking the screenwash pump and causing it to fail. Just had to have mine replaced!

I'll second the Lidl concentrate stuff - it's really good and seems to not freeze up (Both bottle and washer jets). Seemed to remember seeing it about 6 months ago and picked 1 up, glad I did now the winters here. Not a prob. on my Octavia as it has heated washer nozzles but on the wife's car the Lidl stuff never froze once. Can't say what dilution I used except "Generous" in the winter - maybe 1/5 screen wash to 4/5 water.

How do you know it's really -65? oO

Would imagine this deal (like many other screenwash bargains) is best used undiluted.

I think you must be a garage mechanics favourite type of customer ;-) Do you know the bore inside a car screen washer pump ?? Screenwash is never going to block it up.....trying to use the pump with frozen jets may well damage the motor

Asda have more than one type and size. Are you sure it is the same stuff?

Those talking about lidl I picked up a screen wash from them just last week, they had the screen washes in end of October so your local one might just have some left.

Picked it up from Milton Keynes Oldbrook
