Just out of interest, which spices do you normally add ?

wouldn't mind giving it a go

I think BikeBarbie's cold vote's a bit harsh. But i won't mind knowing what to put into pasata to make your own either.

Hot though .. 50p a jar .. makes for a very quick and convenient meal..

You saved me the trouble. I won't repeat my recent rant regarding cook-in sauces. I am horrified, but not suprised, to see this thread at 400 degrees.:thinking:

Why are people so lazy and disinterested regarding what they eat. Cooking from scratch is so much healthier, tastes better and is generally cheaper.

Depends what you are cooking, but we normally throw in plenty of oregano, basil, and a touch of coriander. Just experiment.

My 10 year old has decided that she likes to cook when she is with me, generally uses a bit of this and a bit of that. Sometimes its better than others, but it always tastes fresh and clean, with none of that cloying taste and texture you get from factory food.

traditional one decent, others not good imo.

good deal...nice simple meal when my partner finishs work at 8.30pm...plus the sauces are quite tasty!!!:)

Dried Italian seasoning & fresh rosemary (out of the garden if you've got it). I use tinned plum tomatoes and only a tablespoon (or two) of passata (tomato puree) to thicken and enrich the sauce.

you can get a large paste and ragu for a £1

What you do is fry some finely chopped fresh garlic (not that puree stuff) with some olive oil, and add a little dried chillies (not ground) let it fry a little -garlic must not get brown or will give horrible bitter taste. When is hot add the Passata (which is NOT tomato puree), salt and pepper to taste. Only when is finished cooking - around 20 minuted on medium fire, add Fresh Herbs like some hand cut basil.

This is the basis of Tomato sauce that you use to make ragu, only need to add mince meat to the frying oil at the beginning.

The lotion the more spices the better is wrong, coriander and rosemary is extremely rarely used with tomatoes sauce for italian cuisine, oregano also sparingly on few tomatoes sauce dishes, certainlynot on ragu'.

Gawd, so many people on their high horses!!

If people want to buy this offer then let them, no need to preach. £1 for something that should cost you £2.52 is a good deal, just because you don't like it or agree with using it is no reason to vote cold or start telling others what they should do...

jog on.

Hot from me, thanks OP.

Hot, love the ragu sauces mainly because they are always on offer shame no asda near me though

Bytemaster, what exactly makes this unhealthy?

I can make my own sauce but I actually like the taste of Ragu.

I buy this because I like it and not because I am lazy or disinterested.

Passata is 44p but when you add the cost of what you add to it, it is probably a bit dearer than Ragu.

I wish people would give up judging people on what they eat. I have been a vegetarian for 20 years but I dont come on here preaching that people shouldn't buy leather and meat goods.

Judge the offer not the people.

Does it include the white sauce for lasagne?

offer still on ... stocked up ... agree with one of the previous posters, the traditional one has the highest tomato content and least calories (didn't check salt/sugar contents mind you)

Its £1 per jar, but I still think its a good deal, have some heat
