SUPERMARKET giant ASDA is slashing petrol to 110.7p per litre - after another 2p cut.
The cuts take fuel down to within reach of £5 a gallon.

And they are certain to spark yet another round of copycat cuts that will save a small fortune for motorists. Diesel drops by a penny to 117.7p.

Asda's cuts will take effect tomorrow morning. The chain - the cheapest nationwide operator in Britain - was charging as much as 126.7ppl in September.

The cuts come just hours after the Sun called for petrol giants to go the extra mile given the incredible falls in the global price of oil. Brent crude fell below $60 a barrel for the first time since 2009 yesterday.

Andy Peake, Asda's petrol trading director, said: "We're giving drivers an early Christmas present."

yet again scamming diesel users!!! no way should there be 7p a litre difference

I'm still boycotting Asda so this stings as I fuel up £50 a week. Good price, should still be under a quid in this country though.

Is there any proof of this? I looked on your.asda.com but I couldn't see anything
don't mean to be rude but anyone could post up a random offer on a fuel price drop

I refuse to drive my Bugatti Veyron until fuel costs are less than a quid a litre!

Why don't they just stop playing about with 1-2p per litre every few days, and just give us a decent drop of say 10p in one go.

Drop the TAX which I'm sure we all know is set at around 60% on fuel and it most certainly be less than £1 all year round, just wait for the fuel prices to rise, we know doubt will sit back and be screwed over time and time again.

+1 i cant see it anywhere else either!!

Last time I put supermarket fuel in my car there was a reaction in the engine creating a super-massive black hole and I was lucky to escape its gravitational pull.

So now I only use Dom Pérignon Champagne petrol, or at a push I can get away with Chanel No.5.

no actually petrol works out cheaper - so if you drink it - your on to a good one

now ... my bubbles I use in shower and bath are even more expensive than Moet (fact) per litre - would i want to shower init ??/ mmm

yeah their costs is the same or maybe even cheaper their cost they pay for diesel but charge us more

£5.97 is not within reach of £5. You will never, ever see the days of £5 a litre until the country ousts those on the left, right and the middle.

bit harsh - if it's only just been posted on here, obviously the news isn't widespread
btw, it would've made sense for 'news' such as this to appear on Asda's website

Surely diesel at £1.18 (rounded up) a litre times 4.5 (4.5 litres to a gallon) equals £5.31 a gallon and petrol at £1.11 (rounded up) a litre times 4.5 equals £5 a gallon? I think thats definetly close for petrol and quite a possibility for the diesel to drop further considering the price of crude oil at the moment.

Just cancelled my BMW i8 no point if petrol this cheap

I didnt start the rumour - I read it - harsh no!!

The price gap between petrol and diesel continues to grow

Oh well, a drop is a drop, even if by 1p per litre, Glass half full e.t.c.

Are there any other countries where diesel is actually more expensive? Seems to be UK specific thing.

Pah. Peasant.

It's been widely reported that Unicorn tears wear out your magical lantern within 12 months and can lead to corrosion of your candy-tusks.

I opt for Integra's Premium Grade Harpee Jism, sure it's smelly but the 16v Twinkle Star Engine will thank you for it.

Looks like you won't have to wait too long

bbc.co.uk/new…970

People who complain about supermarket are people like me, who has a car capable of 40mpg but currently sits at around 29 due to a few problems. And of course it's easier to blame fuel than fix the car

The government is already getting less tax per litre at the moment, if anything duty will go up if the barrel price continues to fall.

BTW the tax breakdown is 58p per litre and VAT on net. So at £1.107 the tax is 76p roughly 68%.

How can they justify such a big difference between petrol and diesel??

People should be encouraged out of cars, not into them. The tax is correct.

good on asda . encourages everyone else to follow suit ;0)

If that happens, it's amazing that oil can be drilled, transported, refined, transported locally and include a profit margin for the fuel station all for 25p a litre.

"Last time I put supermarket Fuel" yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn zzzzzzzzzzz ooooooooo fell off me chair ........... this is the same sort of stuck record comment on every fuel post ........... give us a break pah~leaze

Momentum now costs less than regular few weeks ago, not even worth filling up too much with prices dropping daily.

Up yours, Russia!

Cos diesel is smelly and pollutes more, anyway the price fixers don't have to justify anything
In 2008, during the last oil price crash, the price of unleaded went down to 90p....looking for a second hand tanker on ebay so I can fill up for the rest of 2015
