Asda reduce price of petrol and diesel to 107.7p / 114.7p from jan 1st

Another price drop and probably more on the way, lowest price since summer 2010

Here’s a bit of early New Year cheer for drivers who fill up at Asda – we’re cutting the price of fuel again. From New Year’s Day you’ll pay no more than 107.7p for a litre of unleaded and 114.7p for diesel.

With oil prices continuing to fall, we aim to lead the way in passing on savings to our customers. It’s the 13th time we’ve been able to cut fuel prices since the end of September, taking 19p off a litre of unleaded and 15p off diesel.

While other supermarkets will no doubt follow our fuel price drop, we are the only retailer with a national price cap at all 245 filling stations – so every single one of our customers knows the maximum price they will pay at the pump regardless of where they live.

Andy Peake, Asda’s petrol trading director, says: “We’re pleased to be giving drivers some early New Year savings with Asda once again leading the way with our 13th price cut on fuel since September. No matter where customers live, they will benefit from the same fuel price with our national price cap of 107.7ppl for unleaded and 114.7ppl for diesel.”

Although I would also like to add we should actually already be there now - these were the prices a week ago in France; petrol about 95p and diesel about 82p a litre. Our government do take the p***.....

Well done to Asda again to be first, but these 2p drops are becoming boring, and clearly just headline grabbing Time they reduced it by a decent amount in one go and stop stringing people along, fuel price are still too high.
Morrison's have now also announced the 2p drop from tomorrow, expect other will follow also.

Yep still paying too much at the pumps

'The latest round of fuel cuts come as the price of oil fell to new five-and-a-half-year low today, falling to $56.92, its lowest level since May 2009. The price of Brent Crude oil has now fallen by more than 50 per cent since September'

They're drip feeding the price drop as it's in their best interests to do that, so much for the customers

At least they are dropping it which forces other outlets to reduce (obviously still BP, etc still charge more in most cases)

Why is it the Govt. fault?

Tax

Why is it the Govt. fault?

It's the tax that the goverment put on the fuel that makes it so expensive.

Remember when the truckers were protesting because tghe price hit 83p/l.....

iv still got half a tank of fuel when diesel was £1.22 lol. I got a full tank then but never did it come to my mind that I should have bought £10 worth.
oh well I will now.

fuel duty then vat make up over 60% of the cost of fuel, the fuel is cheap, the government make it a ripoff,

Any news on Sainsbury's reducing theirs too ?

Been cheaper in portglenone for weeks! hotukdeals.com/dea…436

still costing me 60+ to fill up my navara!!...
It seems opec countries are under strain now with lower oil costs..well what goes around comes around for years they helped keep prices artificially high with their cartel.

I wonder if they will start putting the price up in the middle east...

I remember there was a price cut when I worked for a little while there, dropping it to 6p per liter. Water was more expensive. I would fill the tank of the hired V6 I was driving for £5.

I should commandeer a supper tanker and fill it with the finest UK spring water (OK tap water) and go trade a liter of water for a liter of petrol. It may just work once....

Prices at the pump are falling, the supermarkets trumpet that...food prices remain high and are blamed on fuel costs

go figure

They display the finest martial arts, when the price goes up, they react like ninjas, when the price is coming down - Tai chi - slow and steady, you hardly know they are moving they are that skillful.

I got 16p off a litre at Tesco, used it yesterday. £45 to fill up the car and saved around £6 so paid £39. Worked out 95p per liter. Yes the car is heavier with a full fuel load but I'll be doing over 200 miles in the next few days.

For example, Asda has dropped its prices about 13 times since September.Luke Bosdet, a spokesman for the AA, said the latest reductions were "in line with wholesale price falls"."There was a 2p [wholesale] price fall in the past fortnight," he said.Supermarkets have been responding to price pressures from independent petrol retailers, he added.Crude oil trading prices have also fallen dramatically. On Monday, the average pump price for unleaded petrol hit 113.7p per litre, its lowest since March 2010.

Makes you laugh that a lot of BP's that are run by BP are more expensive than everyone else. For example a few weeks ago the local BP Connect was run by BP, and was always 2-3P more expensive than say supermarkets and ESSO. It was recently taken over and is now a SPAR but with BP Fuel and are now price matching everyone else...

I'm gonna impregnate so many fine Venezuelan women that ill be able to use their titty milk to get that shop off the ground again.

What about diesel ? Also do people remember the energy firms hikeing home energy prices saying it was linked to global oil prices. How about now? Why are energy firms not bringing down the prices?

b Why? Petrol has to be a minimum standard whether you buy in a supermarket or not.
