II think I prefer the lard !!!!!

Come on carnibores...............where are you saying this is a cracking deal :-D

Personally I'd rather spend more on decent quality bangers, but if you're on a budget it's great price.

At least you know what's in it lol!
Though I doubt they are any worse than you would get served in a chip shop.
Half the country seem to eat those without batting an eyelid - even though they're eating some lol!

Are these Asda Smart price sausages? Not showing on the website.

These are full of fat, gristle and mechanically extracted meat......wouldn't even give them to the dog....

My Dad used to call sausages "Bags of Nothing"

Great deal for all vegetarians!

There are probably regulations that prohibit gristle in dog food !!!!!

Richmond sausages are according to a survey the nations favourite sausage..just look what's in them. The Asda ones are far worse.

FAMILY FAVOURITE SINCE 1926. THESE RICHMOND SAUSAGES ARE MADE FROM THE BEST INGREDIENTS AND TO THE HIGHEST STANDARD.
Ingredients

PORK (41%) , WATER , PORK FAT (10%) , RUSK , POTATO STARCH , SOYA PROTEIN CONCENTRATE , SALT , INGREDIENTS LESS THAN 1%: FLAVOURINGS, STABILISERS: DIPHOSPATES; GUAR GUM , ANTIOXIDANTS: VITAMIN C & E (E300 & E307) , PRESERVATIVE: SODIUM METABISULPHITE, COLOUR: RED 2G. , FILLED INTO NON UK BEEF CASINGS .http://forum.kitz.co.uk/Smileys/kitzemotes/vomit1.gif

Any sausage that is a solid pinkish/cream colour has been mashed to a pulp - there is a reason for that , its hides what is in there,or isn't as the case may be.
Any remotely decent sausage you will see the actual little chunks of pork through the skin.
I wonder what the minimum % of pork is, before it isn't classed as a 'pork' sausage? 50% I'd think....
BUT 59% of those Richmond ones aren't even pork meat so I'd class them as being just a 'sausage with pork added'
If the Asda ones were better than those I would be very surprised.
'Traditional Rusk, potato, fat & soya protein sausages with the taste of REAL pork' - No thankyou.

And ingredients are listed by most to last,so after Pork 41% (which can be lean, fat, gristle sinew or whatever) is water,so draw your own conclusions from that.

Compare the difference to Sainsburys taste the difference sausages(Yes I know they are expensive,)but look at the difference in ingredients.
6 Ultimate Outdoor Reared Pork Sausages

Prime outdoor reared pork, coarsely chopped, with fresh sage and nutmeg.
Dietary Information

Contains wheat gluten & sulphites
Ingredients

Pork (95%), Breadcrumbs (Wheatflour, Salt, Yeast), Salt, White Pepper, Dried Onion, Preservative: Sodium Metabisulphite, Nutmeg, Sage, Coriander, Antioxidant: Ascorbic Acid. Filled into natural pork casings.

Meat content 95%.

Heat added, and why not. They are not best sausages, they are not things you'd give guests, they are CHEAP sausages. Before you all sit there high and mighty and take the **** remember that many peaople do eat these, although probably not through choice. If people didn't buy them, they wouldn't be selling them in the first place. If you eat these, its a great deal. Not everyone can afford 50p per sausage.

'The secret of the successful "economy" sausage these days lies not so much in strange offals but in fat and protein engineering. Pig rind is an essential ingredient in the protein engineer's toolbox. Frozen, imported, chopped to a slurry and soaked with hot water, it produces a bargain blancmange which can make up 30-35% of the sausage and still be called meat.'

Yum Yum....... pork rind blancmange
Read on if you like - worth the read.

The Richmond sausages are full of fat, when you cook them in the oven, you could have a swim with the fat left!

Ah now I know why the cheap sausage, as that nasty pink look!

Oh come on you lot, these are ECONOMY sausages, the point is they were never quality but are still a bargain to those who buy them ....24p...... lard is a lot more than that but you can't make a meal out of it.
They are perfectly safe to eat and I am sure that those that prefer quality products can afford to. If you don't like something you should not vote cold, its only if you think its not a good price and this is a good price for what it is.
Sorry for going on but rep to 1970steve for bothering to post, I think its a good price even if I don't like the product.

I can't eat this sort of crap.
I need to eat a lot of meat. - I am on a low carb diet for Insulin Resistance and cheap sausage just has too much rusk in it, far too high carbs.

If I wasn't on a low carb diet, I would find another reason NOT to eat this sort of junk.

I wasn't having a go at anyone in particular - honest. It is just that when Quorn is every mentioned it generates a tirade of comments from 'carnibores' saying that Quorn is carp - I was just trying to see if they would come on this thread to say how much they liked them - or if they would say these are carp also!!!

Bit controversial !!! Bring it on !!!

And no - before anyone says it/thinks it - I do eat meat - but I also would never touch these.

And I am sure that those people who think that some people can only afford these instead of a quality product (which does not have to be expensive) should really be looking at what they are spending their main disposable income on! Do Asda do own label fags and booze! Oops - even more controversial!

Used to eat Richmond skinless, went off them though.
The ones Asda do for I think its 97p or 2 for £1.50 is pretty
good and preferable to similiar in Marks& Spencer and Tesco
not tried this cheaper sausage in Asda yet.Who packs it?
