MOTORISTS will see the cost of filling up on both diesel and unleaded fall by up to 2p a litre at Asda petrol stations from tomorrow.

The move takes force across the supermarket's 319 forecourts and means unleaded will cost no more than 116.7p a litre, while diesel will be capped at 127.7p a litre.

Asda says the cuts follow a continuing fall in wholesale costs - which is the price it pays for fuel before selling it on.

The supermarket adds that it's the fifth price drop it's announced since October 26 and that unleaded has fallen by 11p a litre over this period, while diesel has fallen by 7p a litre.

When Asda cuts prices, the other supermarkets are usually swift to follow.

Who cares? Just buy a hybrid car and don't think about fuel prices!

Maybe a full electric one would be even better?

About time. We're all getting ripped off and something needs to be done.

Because we subsidise the significantly higher discounts in the price of petrol.

Great news! Not that I buy fuel there (our local Asda) it's because BP garage approx. 1000 yds away ALWAYS drops theirs in response. Asda yesterday was 118.9, BP 120.9 but I have a Platinum loyalty card with the Spar/Budgen's store on the BP site that gives 2p OFF per litre every Sunday, so the price is the same as Asda's.
The great thing about the loyalty card is every single month you get a freebie and other offers, just print the vouchers out and grab which is best. The freebies can even include a bottle of beer sometimes. What's not to like? Sorry Asda!

Actually, thinking about it you might have a BP near you that is included.
Only a few but spread from Oxfordshire to Wiltshire.
Link to sign up if needed.

Heat, I remember a month or so ago petrol was between 131.9/135.9, about time it dropped, all it seemed to do is rise more & more each week.

Genius, who defines who needs to drive oh great one ? Go via train? 3.1% increase on an already expensive way to travel. Maybe we should all walk the 5, 10, 15 or whatever miles it is to work

You must be too rich, realise that most people spend money on a car because it is a necessity of modern life, and not everywhere has public transport or safe roads to ride a bike on. We are also paying to be safe, rather drive a car around the streets day/night than get hassled by the scum walking around the streets.

wonder what the bus companies are going to blame their new year price increases on now...
  14. winchman's avatar
To give some perspective to UK pricing. In Oz, petrol is 70p/litre, Sydney city trains, £2 for up to 10km, if going a bit further £3.50 for 35-65km . In Malaysia you can buy a bus ticket with no pre-booking and go hundreds of miles for £10 on good roads(nicer coach than nat exp, seats 3 abreast not 4, WiFi) a local bus ticket is 60p. It's up to the government to decide if it wants to make transport cheap... If they want to get people off the roads then it's possible..

Sadly the government are too busy filling their pockets and only thinking 4 years in to the future, not giving a second thought to what is good for the country and investing in better infrastructure.. (edited)

Diesel owners always subsidise petrol owners. Should be shared about so we’re all paying the same. Make no difference to the suppliers as they aren’t realistically any worse off.

At one point, the difference in diesel prices between Margate and Canterbury was up to 10p/litre depending on the garage! Luckily I do community visits in Margate area, so fill up there before coming back home near Canterbury.

I still think there is a conspiracy theory behind these fuel prices being decreased. ... Normally around the same time as when the government decides on how much to pay per mile for company diesel cars....🙊

Costco effectively pay YOU to join.
£26.40 for 2 person trade membership.
    That's £13.20 each.
They give you £20 off online order with no min spend.
    £20.00 - £13.20 membership = £6.80 They are effectively paying you £6.80 to join.
Just filled up at £1.159 per litre too.
as well as loads of FREE samples in store at the end of EACH AISLE.
And no gridlock getting to Asda (Metrocentre) ,no queues to fill up and no gridlocked queues to get out of Asda.
    Result! (edited)

Brilliant logic there. While you're at it, reduce the costs of public transport and then you're halfway to becoming prime minister!
