Got some from Aldi today, and a couple of their 19p bags of potatoes. We're going to be eating mini chips for a week

FD will love you.

Aldi's fruit & veg are suspicious no BBE date on the packaging, I'd rather spend an extra 1p and go to Asda where you can proper labelling showing dates on them!

You learn something new everyday

I'm suspicious of people who live their lives by BBE dates.

...or I got an email a half hour ago.

I don't think I've ever taken notice of best before dates on veg. If they're starting to go moldy, squashy, different colour etc, bin them - otherwise they're fair game!

Best before dates? On veg? If it ain't slimy its edible .

Chanchi doesn't like veg

Good deal. Bet other supermarkets will follow suit now.

You can buy loose fruit and veg in Asda, that doesn't have a date on it so why does bagged veg need it?

Millions of tonnes of good usable food is wasted every year because of BBE dates. People need to learn to store fruit/veg correctly and recognise when they're going over.

All these great low prices since brexit, I bet all the remainers are fuming how wrong they were......

I usually bin them when they'v gathered enough mould to cure a sick ward.

Wouldn't buy food from Asda. Most contaminated chicken, filthy containers used for home delivery, American style aggressive management

Yeah, great, let's screw the farmers over even more...Merry Christmas

I don't KNOW, but I suspect these supermarkets are paying the farmers reasonably well and absorbing the cost so they can pass the savings onto the consumer. I sincerely hope so, anyway.

I hope so squiff, I was pretty disgusted by the programme on wastage where the parsnip business folded as the supermarkets squeezed them too much

There's always one who makes a daft comment. You are buying from the supermarket, not the farmer. The farms have contracted prices so get paid the same whatever the price on the shelf. The supermarkets use this as a loss leader to get you through the door where they hope you will then fill your trolley with lots of profit making items.

There is a BBE date it's just hidden as a 4 digit number, the first two numbers are the week number and last two are the day of week, eg. 4505, week 45 day 5, I usually find the veg is still on sale way after this date anyway

If you look at the side of the box or tray it's sayes the date ! ! !

Bought broccoli (prepack, not loose) four times from Asda and each time I found lots of worms and caterpillars in them. Took too long to clean so just threw them in the recycling.

The Tesco equivalent don't seem to have this problem.
