Off to Canada in the summer. £500 currently gets:

Travelex: 885.00 CAD
Asda: 886.80 CAD

This is pre-sale price too. Personally, I'd rather have my money in advance rather at the airport.

It's only on until Thursday night...

do you think if I order on click and collect I'll be able to collect it about 7pm Friday??

Find moneycorp usually best for dollars online

Travelex is best

There rates are better than Travelex now, before the sale, so will deffo have a look tomorrow, going to the States in July, is it worth getting it now, heard the dollar will be rising.

I thought everyone got their money when they arrive from a cash machine these days.

voted hot will check at 8am thanks

Worth bearing in mind Travelex also do 0.5% cash back on quidco as well.

not a bad rate but as mentioned before, better if you use cash machines when abroad and use a decent card

example

today Asda are offering 1.188 on Euro

on 30th Jan Forex rate was 1.218 today it is 1.208

on 30th Jan I was getting 1.218 with my Halifax Clarity credit card and with no transaction fees

so with Asda I would have paid about 2% in hidden charges

As I say it's not a bad rate - but would really recommend using a debit / credit card that does not charge fees and take cash out when abroad

Debenhams £1 = €1.1966 is better if you can collect from store.

live rate on Debenhams right now is €1.179

EliTom

Yep you're right. I went through the Travel Money Maximiser and it gave me yesterday's rate!

If you work in London and can collect, Thomas Exchange Global is the best place.

Been using them for the last 4 or 5 years. Always the best rate, although best to order online for pick up as the rate is sometimes a bit lower when you get there.

Thomas Exchange Global

They are offering a worse deal on euros in the sale than yesterday! Travelex is giving a better rate (based on £500).

oh dear Asda - who are you trying to kid ....

last nights rate on Forex was about €1.206

rate right now is €1.2065

pre 8am rate on Asda was €1.188

Asda post 8am SALE RATE is now €1.175 that's another 1% they have made

VOTE COLD - just for Asda's dishonest tactics !

That's because the GBP has taken a bit of a tumble...

See post #7 showing GBP vs CAD yesterday.

Here it is for today:

Travelex: 874.25 CAD
Asda: 876.20 CAD

Yesterday was $1.80 more at Asda, Today is $1.95

Not much of a 'sale' but Asda is still better (for CAD at least!) than travelex.

I need to get a Halifax Clarity card. However, I've read a lot of people saying that they were rejected even though they have a good credit rating. Also, the card got blocked first time and it can only be unblocked in the branch.

It's also useful taking some cash with you.

Another thing is that the GBP has done very well recently so for some people, 'locking' in a rate now with cash is a better than waiting to see what the rate is like in the summer. As I mentioned in another post I am going to Canada in the summer (5 months). It's quite possible that the rate will return back to what it was 5 months ago which was about 1.55. I'd rather get 1.75 now in cash than 1.55 with a clarity card in the summer.

You're not comparing fairly there. Asda's rate pre-8am would have been yesterday's Asda's rate which would have been based on the exchange rate the Friday. You should be comparing Friday and Monday's Forex rates. If they were down then it's fair for Asda to drop their rate this morning.

You think Asda rates are live? They're fixed for the day based on earlier exchange rates. As you said, the rates took a dive yeserday morning and that's why you saw a drop at Asda this morning.

Look at my CAD example above. Both Asda and Travelex rates are down today. However, Asda is down less because the sale is limiting the drop.

Unless of course you think Travelex are in on it too?

That picture looks a lot like the Hounslow ASDA store.

LOL WHAT A CON!!!!!!!!!!!! I checked the rates last night as I am away on Sunday so need cash. The rate today is WORSE than last night. I checked other sites last night and today and while the rate has gone up elsewhere it's gone down in Asda. This is a disgusting attempt to con customers.

As others said the rate is actually less. I checked at 7.49am then again an hour later and the rate had dropped by around 1 cent. Poor show Asda

The GBP took a bit of a dive yesterday.

Another big up for Thomas Exchange Global mentioned earlier. Theirs was the best rate I could reasonably get last year for my needs for Chinese currency and it was a convenient and efficient service from their Victoria branch, not far from Victoria Station.

Poor rate on euros

Original Poster

Yeah sorry guys, thats really poor from ASDA that the rate is actually worse than yesterday.

I found this 'deal' in good faith, but looks like ASDA were just trying to pull a fast one. Will look elsewhere now when I probably would have gone with them anyway.

Unfortunately the dollar rate is also worse than yesterday. That's a shame.

I'm going to France Saturday (if the weather lets me) only for the day. Where's the best place to get about £100 worth of euros?

Just compared the dollars with Tesco travel money for £300, you get about 2 more dollars at asda

Best exchange rate at the moment including free delivery is moneycorp at 1.184 google top 10 exchange rate and your transaction is protected by the FSA
