? Ok then....

argh, just filled up the tank at Asda, paying with our 1p a litre off Asda credit card.

lol 2p a litre. If I filled my car from empty I would save £1

this country is a disgrace with the amount of money we pay for things plus tax and vat, thats why once i;ve qualified as a nurse and got a year or so under my belt i'm off to pasture's new, nice warm sunny country where u don't get shafted on a daily basis.

I can't blame you, they say that 80 per cent of all fuel duty is tax to the government, so you can imagine how much fuel would be if we didn't have to be shafted for fuel duty, road tax, insurance, congestion and toll charges etc...

Can comfirm Unleaded £103.9 Just done the price change.

My local tesco is 109.9 unleaded&110.9 diesel

Typical when I just filled up yesterday. Oh well ony 60p loss I suppose.

need to be dropped by at least 30p like it was at the beginning of the year for it to be like normal

100 per cent of all fuel duty is tax to the government :-D

petrol tax is about 250%

and to think that the main decreases in government spending over the next 10 years are predicted to be in transport.

I would vote conservatives if they said they would come out and ban all this speculative trading in oil.

But Goldman Sachs et al makes too much in profits and already own the Labour Party.

People oil should nowhere be £1.06p as it is now - pure rigging of the market.

asda is usually the 1st to reduce prices. will soon be going back up though on jan 1st!
wonder how long tesco take to lower theirs, or will they even bother lol

Its almost economics 101 - increase price to control demand (in this case via taxes).

Only problem is, unless your in maybe London, you'll struggle to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time and without some little scrotes playing their music off their phones, nevermind the cost should you not plan 6 weeks ahead. And they fully well know this, too.

And the good news is that it's likely to increase again come 1st January when VAT goes back up. Woo.

Oil's just blipped to $70/barrel, so its just reacting to wholesale costs and cashing in on customer flow. What you save in fuel can easily be wiped out by the extra costs of a shop at Asda.

this is great - remember you guys who complain about it going up again in December. It's not Asda's fault it's our governments sneaky vat increase after adding the 2p duty onto fuel last year when vat was lowered and failing to reduce duty when it goes up. Well done Asda! lets hope others follow suit!!

BTW, will wait til confirmed til i vote!

And in London the tube is so crowded that you need a "warrior mentality" to get on it.

Still, individual transport in the current sense is not sustainable, and we need to push to alternatives. All western countries (except the US) charge high fuel duties to push for alternatives.

So fill up while it is cheap, because next year fuel duty goes up again!

How so? Asda is easily the cheapest supermarket around here, unless you want to count Lidl and Poundstretcher as supermarkets... But you will have to pay with your nerves, certainly on a weekend.

Hi adyorton, you look like a local lad to me, please could you confirm wether this was the Spondon or Sinfin Asda? Also did you notice the price of diesel?

If you are not local fair play for supporting the Super Rams.

Not sure if most people realise this but you pay tax on a tax on petrol .

Fuel Duty added , then VATon the lot .

2p off is a small start , needs to get back to less than £1 / litre if anyone is going to really cheer .

I bet you it tumbles on the run in to the election .

Thanks for the info. Here begins the price war for middle earth and a thousand HUKD posts!

Cold because I travel around in a go-kart powered by my own sense of self satisfaction;)

it's a pity that asda do not sell petrol in stevenage because tesco and sainsbury would have a bit of competition and bring the prices down.

my freind in mexico pays appx 38 yes 38! PENCE (equivalent) a litre!!!! i think a previous poster here has the idea. "greener pastures". alas a house 3 kids n her in doors doesnt allow to just "drop everything" and go.,
still nice H AND R added

How much profit do they make on a litre of petrol?
If a litre of petrol costs £1.10, it comprises 50.35p in fuel duty and 16.38p in VAT. The wholesale price of the fuel is about 42p, leaving a profit of about 2p for the retailer.

How much does the Government make from fuel duty and VAT?
In 2006-7 the Government collected £23.6 billion in fuel duties and a further £6.8 billion from VAT on fuel.

How much tax do oil companies pay?
In 2002, Gordon Brown introduced a North Sea tax on energy companies of 10 per cent of profits, which increased to 20 per cent in 2005. The Government’s total income from this windfall tax was £9 billion in 2006-7, which will grow considerably as a result of the increased profits. Shell paid about £1 billion in tax on UK profits in 2006, although oil companies trade internationally, meaning they do not pay all of their taxes in Britain.

How high might the price of fuel go?
The president of Opec, which represents 13 oil-producing nations, has warned that oil prices could hit $200 a barrel, almost double what they are now, meaning petrol could hit 150p a litre by 2009. That would equate to £84 to fill up the average car.

haha that's exactly what i'm doing! I'm a second year male nurse and i'm leaving for Australia as soon as i qualifiy :-D

My name says it all really, i'm sick to death with this country.

What really ****s me off about this country is the greed. When barrels of oil went up to like $130 a barrel, the ptrol went up to 1.20 or so, then they went down to $50 a barrel for AGES, did the petrol price reflect this drop? Did it ****!

Up like a rocket down like a feather describes Britains petrol prices.

Why? Because he doesn't want to be raped by the government on a daily basis? I hate people like you, who get jealous because other people have the determination to do what it takes to leave the country.

As posted earlier if I fill my car car from empty I save £1, neither hot nor cold, just fortunate if you happen to fill up at Asda, not worth driving out of your way for.

The only ones who don't think this are usually the scumbags milking it.
Ordinary people with average 17-23k salaries get shafted to the hilt in this country.

Fact.

You really don’t have a clue, do you! How can I be jealous of you when I don’t know you? How can you say that you hate me when don’t know me?

Who is raping who here? This country has raised you and given you everything that you take for granted, including an internationally respected education and qualifications. And what do you plan to do when (or if) you qualify? You plan to pack your bags and leave.

You are little more than a parasite who’s sole intention is to take everything and give nothing back.

As I said earlier, good riddance.

Ditto. It's these taxes that give you the qualifications. The government has ploughed billions into the NHS.

Thumbs up for Asda for always coming up first to put the price of fuel down, which forces other suppliers to follow suit.

Tesco, shame on you over and over again....you boast you're the nation's cheapest supermarket...but you're not. Eventually people will realise, and more and more people will ditch you.

I'm not an Asda fanboy, in fact I rarely shop for food there. But thanks to Asda's move petrol in other suppliers will be forced down.

103.9!

56.19 per litre is tax, then add VAT

then +
1)car tax when a car is 1st bought
2)with VAT on top of that
3)Car Tax on top of that
4)with VAT on top of that
5) VAT on your insurance
6)Toll's
7)with VAT on top of that
....

with a public transport system which isnt worth a bag of sand.......

The grass is always greener.................

We pay all these taxes to pay for nurses, etc! I've just received a massive tax bill for hard work I did earlier this year, very depressing.

Good luck to you though.
