Asda Vegetable (Rapeseed) Oil £2.94 3L

Did you know Asda vegetable oil is 100% rapeseed and produced in UK? At under £1/litre it is cheaper than oils marked as rapeseed and almost half the price of some. Morrisons vegetable oil used to be rapeseed but is now sunflower - although when it changed a few months back they seemed to keep it very quiet. Tesco's is also rapeseed but slightly more expensive and from more than one country.

Just thought I'd point this out as unless you study the bottles you may not be aware and rapeseed oil is supposedly a healthier option than some of the alternatives.

Why pay more just because it's labelled rapeseed?

No I didn't know this! Great info that's op. I'll look in Asda next week.
The labelled rapeseed bottle prices have gone up and up!

Thanks. Always buy Crisp n' Dry. I don't use a lot so a 2l bottle usually gets me from one offer to the next. Asda have it on rollback at £2 so a smidge dearer, but your post is one to keep in my head should I need.

I had a quick look. It appears that it is but only if this is 100% rapeseed oil? But it doesn't say

Have a look at the second of the three reviews of the product on the Asda site.

Same's true for a lot of supermarket vegetable oil - look at the ingredients and you'll find whether it's rapeseed or not.

It's probably not as good as the cold-pressed stuff you can pay £££'s for, but for cooking it's ace. And supposedly better to cook with than the much-vaunted olive oil

Yes. High in Monounsaturate Fatty Acids. Plus it's homegrown.

Its better for cooking chips in deep fat fryers, sunflower oil forms a horrid sticky residue on the fryer that's hard to clean off.

Isn't Crisp n Dry just rapeseed oil anyway

Yes, that was my point. I buy when on offer, like now. £2 for 2l is basically the same price, bar a penny or two.

I thought rapeseed oil was supposed to be 'not good' for you on the basis of arthritis or something? Still voting hot for me though.
