Popped in to Asda and saw they had a a few marked half price.. It is showing the same price online so must be nationwide. They were £7-8 depending on size. It is Scottish farmed Salmon.

Does anyone know which county the salmon were caught in?

Scottish farmed

Seabed pollution at almost two thirds of Scottish salmon farms is either … Seabed pollution at almost two thirds of Scottish salmon farms is either ‘unsatisfactory’ or ‘borderline’, analysis of FOI information reveals

Now.... would that be the one of Scottish farms that are polluting the sea bed

Could anyone please let me know if it is safe to eat it raw (the way you eat shushi/sashimi)?

I have been eating it that way (because I think raw salmon tastes better than cooked salmon) until the fishmonger at Asda told me better not to..

Just need someone in the know to tell me. I normally spread lime/lemon on top of the flesh and eat with wasabi (could kill bacteria maybe)?

There has been much discussion/research on the safety of eating Scottish Salmon

Best to Google to get the latest Facts

Read this, It's old but it should inform you about eating raw salmon:

Safety of eating farmed salmon (farmed fish) is here seems to suggest that it is safe to wat raw. But note that safe in government usage is about 99.x% or just a tiny risk and is not 100% absolute. For example: safe safety seat belt is not 100% protection from death. Remember this safety advice is under controlled condition of farmed salmon on its own. It does not mean safe against cross contamination, bad storage, wrong handling and human error or even the unexpected and relies completely that disease control using chemicals and medicines to treat the farm fish work as well as they should. To reduce this tiny risk further cook the fish and/or freeze the fish. In Japan, tuna for example, arrive for auction in a deep frozen state. In supermarkets, such as Waitrose, the raw meat counter is often next to the fish counter. Staff are trained to avoid cross contamination but the same staff could operate both counters. In ASDA I have seen during quiet period the fish counter person went off to do other duties. Eating raw fish , sushi and sashmi in Japanese culture is under rigorous management and the raw fish is really fresh, meaning no more than a day. I would not rely on fishmongers and supermarket here to have such rigorous approach as a sushi chef in Japan. In China, for example, just across the sea they did not have rigorous management so there was no raw food eating culture. Additionally freshwater fish should not be eaten raw (with the exception of farmed under rigorous disease control and away from animals). Seawater (only) fish is less prone to disease compared with freshwater fish (due to the saltiness of the sea water) but they are wild so there is no disease control and safety relies on the expert skills and careful eyes of the sushi chef serving the raw fish So be more careful with the wild Alaskan Salmon, Salmon is a mix of freshwater and seawater fish though the risk is tiny, very careful examination of thinly sliced fish, I use back light to examine the slices!

Fresh Scottish farmed salmon lacks taste and flavor IMHO but this is great deal if you're making a pie or using it as an ingredient. You have a deal here so stock up.

I thought this would be a nice fish to add to my aquarium. Got to the store and turns out it's dead. Total ripoff. Voted cold.
