The follow up to Life On Mars, Ashes To Ashes sees the return of DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister)!

But he's no longer the self styled 'Sheriff Of Manchester' - drawn by the action and intrigue of the London Met, Gene's turned his attentions to taking on the 'southern nancy' criminal scum!

He is joined by his faithful sidekicks Ray Carling (Dean Andrews) and Chris Skelton (Marshall Lancaster). DCI Alex Drake is thrown into the mix - after suffering a horrific accident in 2008 she finds herself in 1981 alongside Hunt and his team.

Cos the cheapest complete 1-3 is £44.85

I would have got this last week, but only opted for series 1 cos this set and series 2 were a bit on the dear side. Oh well, hopefully series 2 should drop down any time soon. Not too bothered about getting series 3 yet, still recovering from Fridays finale! Mrs Yaffle was in floods of tears (she loves Gene Hunt, I think shes loves him even more after the ending :)), even my 13 yr old daughter shed some tears. I managed to keep myself composed :whistling:. I don't watch that much TV so no Ashes to Ashes is going to leave a big hole in my Friday night viewing!

Really gonna miss Ashes to Ashes

great find

Cheers OP. I'd been looking for S1 so getting both S1 and S2 at that price is great!

Great ending to both series, Life on Mars included. I think Gene Hunt would make a great Doctor Who.

Enjoyed the ending.

Definitely. I read that the writers were considering having Sam Tyler come out of the Railway Arms at the end instead of Nelson but decided against it as it would steal a bit of Keeley Hawes thunder - plus he was supposed to have passed over anyway, so they never asked John Simm to appear. I think it was a good call, although I'm sure my missus would still be crying now if that would have happened!

"They never asked John Simm to appear"......LOL!!!:-D:-D Not for one second would John Simm have appeared in this programme, which was nothing more or less than a contrived and heavy handed attempt to cash in on Life on Mars, albeit S 3 had a half decent ending.

John Simm made it VERY plain he wouldn't do a third series of LOM....that's why it had such a brilliant ending, after it reached its natural ending...a third series would have diluted it....and for him to make a cameo appearance in this would have been plain daft, not that he would have done so anyway.

I'm not doubting the acting ability of the excellent Philip Glenister, a latter day Jack Reagan............ but to even suggest Keeley Hawes could possibly steal anything from John Simm in the acting stakes ..let alone his thunder...is ludicrous..... sorry...John Simm is Premier League....Ms. Hawes is League 2 at best in comparison...

Simm was working with a much better script though, Ashes to Ashes must have been written by 11yos, although an 11yo may have done a better job
