This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

I’ve just had an email from Halfords advertising the Assist 20” Electric Bike @ £398. This is a saving of £101 and have claimed it as the “UKs Most Affordable Electric Bike”.

Spec looks fairly standard for a bike at this price point. Offers a 20 mile range which isn’t too bad for short term commuters. Shengei motor with a speed sensor. But it also comes kitted with mudguards and a pannier rack - which will also usually set you back £40-50.

Looking on their website; it seems available in store as well as online - May go and have a look after work.

Seems hot to me! Thoughts?

So you can get the old leg over.
No comments yet from those who tell children Santa does not exist
Had a similar one of these some years ago for £249.
24v is poor, about as powerful as a kids ride on car so don't expect any help going up hills.
Cycle to work scheme!
"...With just one turn on the pedals you will be able to ride up hills and against the strongest winds, like they didn’t even exist..."

Ha, ha!
Who writes this guff? Hope they get lots returned when this proves to be untrue!
No gears either so cheap but probably not very cheerful if you have any hills (or wind!)..
looks ok, folding bike which can't fold itself, kind of dissabled.
System voltage: 24V is ridiculous
Is legal to ride. Pity for e-scooters as it is illegal to ride on public road. So sad

Might be then, as there probably aren't many sophisticated Sarahs about.

unless its 24v at 40amps current draw, but its not
this is what puts people off e-bikes. it makes you look like an old person who can't peddle! i wouldn't be seen dead on a bike like that, and neither would i been alive riding one of those either. you could not make a bike look any worse than that one.

e-bikes are not all about old people who can't peddle, with the right bike you can pick up proper speed which you can not if you peddle, unless you were chris boardman.

I had this as a starter bike, and realised the only way to get the performance I wanted was to self build, nothing off the shelf could do that.

the e-bikes were built for old people, or they looked like they were. that bike in this deal looks like it is built for an old lady to go shopping i used to think e-bikes were for people who could not manage to peddle themselves and i couldn't see the point of riding a bike if you could not peddle yourself.

however, i am now wiser and have realised that they have other benefits if you get the right bike. i have seen deals for e-bikes on hukd where the battery is built into the frame itself so it looks like a regular bike. this makes the bike more streamline and allows you to go much faster and long distances.

i am certainly interested in getting an e-bike but i want to wait until the price drops a bit as they are still new technology and i want the technology to progress a bit before i will fork out money for an e-bike. the better ones look like between £1,500 to £2,000 at the moment. i want to wait until you can get a really good e-bike for around £900 to £1,000.
no gears, waste of time

First of all, its pedal, not peddle, peddle is to sell something.
You still have to pedal ebikes, they are electric assistance not electric motorcycles.
When the battery is hidden in the frame, it usually means a smaller battery, as there just isn't enough room to make a large battery fit without it being a large oversize downtube.
Where the battery is situated, or how big it is will have no impact on how fast you go. The motor assistance cuts off at 15.5mph, so only your own power can make it go faster.

do you need gears if it is just one speed, slow?

lol, pedal 15.5 mph on this bike, or all e-bikes? why would it be designed not to assist at a higher speed? doesn't make a lot of sense. sounds like a design fault.
Single gear limits speed unassisted (remember small wheels mean the bike will be low geared anyway) and motor cuts off at 15.5mph so don't expect to ever go fast. Speed wise you will be somewhere between a mobility chair and a normal bicycle. You need to spend more to get a decent e-bike this is far too minimalist and low cost in spec.

I guess if you found that the gearing was too limited you could upgrade to gears but 20" wheels are not ideal for derailleurs as they get drenched in water and mud from the road and this frame won't have a gear hanger option but something like a 3 speed hub is an option, Nexus etc.

I notice the weight limit for the rider is 120kg and yet I wonder what sort of performance can be achieved with a single speed bike and such a low power hub motor and battery at that weight. Also this looks to be a geared hub motor to give more torque and they typically have 3 nylon wheels/cog inside which can wear out. A single speed drivetrain means the rider will add less assistance and therefore this motor will be under much more strain. Just feels like a bike destined to fail for heavy riders and will keep cutting out due to excessive current drain and the motor over-heating especially on hills. If you keep taking the motor to the extreme where it will keep cutting out it will not last long and excessive current drain on the battery will shorten its life too.

This e-bike is so crap Halfords didn't even want to put their Apollo brand on it and their Apollo brand is their entry level brand normally.

Buy a secondhand Kalkhoff!
Better e-bike here for only £450 but only 1 left. Massively superior to this e-bike but still entry level I would say worth considering if you don't mind a step through frame.

Another option here with shaft drive and a nexus hub so a very low maintenance bike and very easy to store but smaller wheels so make sure you miss every pothole.
