cool, I'll load it up with my 96kbps MP3s
At least now scam artists have rallied around a term to easily identify them, "high-res" or "HD" audio.

There's a reason we settled on 44.1khz 16 bit digital audio - it encompasses the abilities of human hearing.

It doesn't matter how much you think you can hear "extra" details in a 24 bit 192khz file, you simply cannot. It's like trying to claim by just straining enough, you can see infrared light. You just can't.

This is such a ridiculously overpriced ripoff designed to prey on snobs who think they have superhuman ears, when they'd fail a blind test plugging their headphones into this or some £50 android.

Got to be a serious purist and audiophile to invest in this so probably won't care about the wonky looks

Not actually correct about our hearing ability as there is more to hearing then the frequency range. However I agree with the gist that you are unlikely to hear much difference in the main especially for modern music that has very little range, very few actual instruments and was sometimes only recorded in a quality less than even CD audio.

It's just not about the source audio file but multiple other elements as well including having a proper amp to drive quality headphones. Unless you think all headphones sound the same too.....

A £50 android will not be able to deliver the same audio quality as this
Do not forget to spend another £399 for headphones 😋
Some time ago I encountered a track from a CD which needs to be ripped to FLAC rather than MP3. Due to a portion of the song breaking up in a specific place whilst playing the MP3 file. The Mp3 rip when played back cannot handle some notes in one section and the sound breaks up. The FLAC rip plays the notes just fine. The word(s) in that section are powerfully sung by a female singer. Original CD, ripped via EAC. Did try different earphones and headphones and the mp3 track played poorly. Even throuugh decent headphones. FLAC file playback was slightly less poor on the same track section via cheap earphones but no issues via better quality earphones and headphones.

I did rip the track again and the issue with the new mp3 rip was there but not with the new FLAC file.

It could be an original studio recording issue at that specific time in the track. Where perhaps the quality wasn't quite there. Due to a blip. Or perhaps when the CD was manufactured but then why would the CD and the FLAC versions play fine? I was rather surprised at the time. With the difference in sound quality between the mp3 and flac versions of the same track..

Song: It's All Coming Back To Me Now from Jim Steinman's Bat Out of Hell The Musical Original Cast Recording.
