About this deal

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

So from last week Asda have started to sell Blue/Reliever inhalers over the counter 2 for £7, considering usually I have to pay £8 for one and have the absolute hassle of getting the ultra helpful (sarcasm alert) receptionists to get me a prescription readied and get to the doctors before I finish work. This is a bit of a god send. I only ever need the reliever at rare moments often when drs are closed.

A great deal and about bloody time for all those with a chest as weak as England's penalty taking ability.

    They're free in Wales anyway!

No they are not, nothing is free. People who pay taxes pay for them for Welsh people and for Scottish people (including Welsh and Scottish tax payers of course)

To be honest you need methadone to make Jeremy Kyle enjoyable, maybe if daytime TV was good none of this would be happening.

Of course we can... We're one of the wealthiest countries on the planet... What I think you actually mean is, "I can't afford my luxuries if we keep letting people have free medical treatment"...

oh this is fab i hate fighting with a receptionist to get an appointment … oh this is fab i hate fighting with a receptionist to get an appointment to tell the doc i need one, 10 min argument for 30 secs of seeing a doc.

Just been and got some, only now you have to fight with the girl on the chemist counter for an appointment.
Asda didn't mention having to be nice to some grumpy old bat at the chemist counter to try and get a consultation before you can get an inhaler.

    This was 11.00 am
Please can i have the ventulin inhalers that are two for £7.
Can you come back at 4.00 pm, "well no i can't i've driven 20 miles here to get an inhaler". ..well i'm a very , very important grumpy old bat and i have the power over whether you can have an inhaler or not.
"Ok then very important grumpy old bat, can i have an earlier appointment",
I will have a word with Jesus over there who does the consultations.
Jesus says "if you sit over there and pray for 20 minutes he will see you".
"Thanks very important grumpy old bat , i will say a prayer for you".
20 minutes later consultation with Jesus.

    Have you taken ventilin before.......Yes
Do you take it more than 2 times every day .....no
Are you on beta blockers or have a heart condition ...no

    Ok you can have some.

Thanks Jesus and very important Grumpy old bat.

Really good idea - however depending on how many medications you're on it's still worth considering a pre-pay certificate. My husband has one and it's around £10 a month so the cost is spread over the year but atleast you can budget a bit easier. Maybe other pharmacies will start following suit - our local Asda doesn't have a pharmacy but there are ones in the Tescos and Sainsburys.

the blue inhaler is not a substitute for the preventer (steroid inhaler). asthma patients who are on a steroid inhaler as well as blue reliever should also be taking regularly to treat the inflammation of asthma and not replacing it with the blue reliver one.

Lets assume you're correct that people only get asthma because of things like that (including fumes from industry, cars etc) - In that case you're saying anyone who has any illness caused by anything to do with living in the modern world shouldn't be treated? That would rule out most illnesses/injuries you understand...

My doctor put's 2 of these per prescription so I only pay one prescription for 2 inhalers.

Good for emergencies though, and yes they should be free. Insulin is.

your gp is talking utter rubbish if you need blue inhaler more than 2/3 times per week regular basis asthma is not controlled a blue inhaler opens the airways giving temporary relief a steroid inhaler treats the inflammation in the airways which is the cause of asthma thus preventing symptoms occuring.asthma is variable and has different triggers for different people.undertreating asthma with temporary relief is the cause of long term problems.you do not get dependant on steroid inhalers they are just treating the condition corectly.blue inhalers are important dont get me wrong but the most important thing is treating asthma correctly. i work in respiratory.im shocked a gp would say that. i would speak to someone at asthma uk for advice.

People with Cystic Fibrosis (C.F.) have to pay for prescriptions too in England
Which i think is so unfair. Inhalers are 1 of many daily meds we have to take along with anything upto 30-40 tablets aday

I work in an asda pharmacy and would like to make it clear that you need to have been prescribed the inhaler before and have proof of it. (Either through your reorder form or patient history from visiting the pharmacy before). We have had so many people in for them who aren't eligible and had to turn them away which often doesn't make for a very happy customer.

I'd hardly call it ridiculous, more realistic. As has been mentioned, these need to be paid for by someone - while you may be happy to pay a bit extra to fund it, most people are not (no matter what they say).

i only have the a blue inhaler use it when i get up and maybe when i feel tired (seems to kick in if im on a late night) asked the doctor if i should be using a brown preventer instead only last month and he assured me by puttin me on a preventer would probably cause my asthma to become worse as i'd slowly become dependent on it - i dont know if hes talking rubbish im not a doctor

i think £7 for two is a fair price seeing that you get them abroad for €3/4 each - but i dont begrudge paying for my script thou the NHS needs every penny and by making a profit out of these helps the more needy then thats only fair

Those with asthma should try the Buteyko breathing exercises. I just bought the book “Asthma-Free Naturally” and followed the exercises. I was very sceptical until I started getting excellent results. I used to rely heavily on the blue inhalers. The exercises literally changed my life once I knew how to control my asthma without drugs. You do have to keep up the breathing exercises though but is a small price to pay for your health. I guess that applies to any exercise.

I'd rather have Asthma than COPD, both are horrible things to have but COPD is a huge killer that is also not funded. Whereas if you're an alcoholic, you get given money to feed your habit and is classed as a disability!
People who make these decisions need lining and and shooting!

I used to be on Ventolin, then someone recommended Symbicort. It is amazing and makes it feel like I no longer have asthma. Ask your doctor for advice on trying it. You will never look back. I don't need to inhale before sport or exercise anymore. You just take it once at night and once in morning. The most amazing asthma drug I've tried.

For those paying for brown inhalers month in and month out, try these 2 … For those paying for brown inhalers month in and month out, try these 2 options. 1. Do look at buying a pre-paid prescription card it works out about half the price. Or2. Plead with your Doc to give you 2 per prescription rather than just 1, as it's NHS a lot won't mind.

Spot on. My doctor gives me 2 per prescription without any trouble at all. If you dont ask - you dont get!

Just to let people know and a heads up , I had ran out of my ventolin , and was on my way to work so always like to carry one with me before my shift if i have a tight or wheezy chest (due to a cold) . I saw the adverts on TV so went into ASDA prior to work , there are adverts everywhere advertising the 2 x inhalors for £7 even on the main doorsto the store, The lady at the pharmacy asked how often do i use a blue inhalor ? to which i replied "about twice a day". She basically told me I was not allowed one as my asthma was not under control. And controlled usage of blue inhalor is once or twice a week maximum

As you can imagine i was frustrated by this , It was a wasted journey and already had an asthma review booked at the drs , After much discussion/ argument i was allowed ONE for emergancy use at the cost of £3.50 . So if you are making a special journey just check you fall into their questionaire criteria ! Just a heads up !!

I live in Wales so mine are free, which they should be for things like this. And before I get a know it all to comment 'but they are not free because of tax blah blah' well I have paid my taxes anyway so if you have paid taxes then have to pay again for your prescription then you are paying double for it.
I don't mind paying for one off prescriptions but an illness that is going to be with me for the rest of my life then it should be free no matter where it is in the UK, this is for any illness that there is no cure, but have to take medication all the time.
The only thing that I would say is that people should not be able to buy these without a doctors prescription.
    Its still hot from me.

    Ok just rang up asda.
You need to have had it prescribed for asthma or copd.
You must be using it no more than twice daily
You must not be on beta blockers not that u will as your asthmatic anyway and these drugs bring on an asthma attack.
You must not have been back within 8 weeks so its for 2 mths supply.
You need to tell your GP about this service.
You are not allergic to salbutamol.
You must be over 16 not pregnant or breastfeeding.
You will then be prescribed 2 Ventolin i repeat Ventolin inhalers which will be labelled correctly.
You then will be advised on how to use them even though u have used then for decades.
You pay just 7.00 and when you return in 8 weeks they will go thru this again with you.
    Any questions?
