Lots of broken files on Astraweb at the moment. I am considering leaving after been a customer for the last three years. Does not matter how cheap it is if they don't deliver.

Astraweb is getting worse for DMCA takedown, think I might cancel my unlimited plan and take out this cheaper plan, I only stay with them for the retention.

First rule of Usenet - you don't talk about Usenet! Come on, people!

Always been this price when using ref url.

Does appear to be very unreliable these days.

Used to use Astraweb but binned newsgroups and moved to HTTPS with Real-Debrid now...cheaper and just as plentiful. €9 for 90 days or €16 for 180 Days

Real-Debrid is a multihoster...one account with them allows you to download as a premium member from most hosts like Rapidgator. Uploaded.to etc...
As fast as my 152Mb VM connection allows. Usually about 17-19 MiB/s download ;-)

yeah much harder to get decent downloads nowdays unless your quick. Ive been on supernews for the past couple years much better than astra. $99 a year deal. was with astra for a good few years. But undecided if I need all this now with the likes of kodi.

Yeh, I've been a astraweb user for nearly 5/6 years now and I've noticed recently in the past years there has been a lot of missing articles. Was thinking of quiting usenet until someone somewhere (reddit maybe) mentioned using two different providers so now I have 1TB of astraweb credit as backup (cos of the excellent retention) and usenetbucket as the main subscription provider. If there's missing articles in one, I go to the other.

But I'm not sure I want to keep this up until my astraweb credits finish. As Uridium mentioned, I might just check out Real-Debrid as most of the stuff I want usually is in uploaded, rapidgator, etc. What I hate though is I do not want register and pay separately for these services, is it really an all for one?

I've been using Debrid for 3 yrs now...I've not registered or paid for any other site since.
The list of supported posters are at the bottom of this page.
real-debrid.com/faq

They do have daily limits on some hosts but only a few....Rapidgator for example is 50Gb per day and Uploaded.to is 20Gb per day...so even the limited hosts are still pretty fair.

They also host a useful torrent service I've tried now and again which works by you posting the magnet link and the torrent is then downloaded direct by there servers, you then download direct via HTTPS from them.

You are promoting a bit too hard, man.
I can hardly imagine you are not taking advantage from the post.

No that's not the case at all. The link I posted goes straight to the FAQ's, no referrals on it or anything. Believe it or not I'm just a happy user of a decent service that's happy to recommend it. There are a quite a few mulithosters out there now some good and some bad (Zevera ...cough) I'm just happy to have found a good one

Like many others I used usenet for many years and was loathe to change...don't regret it now.

Filesharing sites + Real-Debrid is much better and cheaper.

Is there a good index on RD, like there are with nzb sites?

Its not a usenet site,its a multihoster.
I.e. uploaded etc.
Links needed from elsewhere.8)

I personally have a dedicated server running transmission, and then just grab it via http. I then use premiumize (another multi hoster) with jdownloader cli on the same server and again, grab via http.

Covers all bases.

Got to agree with others regarding DMCA.

It's getting silly. I don't know why there haven't been a flurry of providers hosting outside DMCA jurisdiction.

I am thinking about cancelling too.

just set up sickbeard and coutchpotato to autograb stuff as soon as its uploaded

To many taken down files with astraweb, not their fault, but good reliable service. If you are downloading movies/TV which are DMCA then use another provider. I use tweaknews' block account as I don't download as frequently as I once did, 50gb lasts me ages.

These days I realised that I can just pay actual money to go to an actual cinema every now and then. As an occasional treat, it can actually work out cheaper and less technical hassle.

astraweb is useless unless used with other providers as additional block providers. not worth it, not even for a fiver.

Sooo can you use a service like this with Couchpotato, Sickbeard and the like? I.e so new episodes are downloaded automatically?

I dropped Astraweb after using them for years in favour of Tweaknews, This was mainly due to the amount of broken files and DMCA takedowns. Tweaknews provides a much better service sorry Astraweb

Awful news supplier, dmca takedowns incomplete files, one of the worst!

same here half the time the files cant be repaired if you can find them in the first place. might be time for a change.

I was with Astraweb for a number of years, cancelled as I was getting fed up with missing parts and corrupt downloads.

Am reading about real debrid for the first time now and am interested, any more positive reviews?

So would you configure your nzb client to connect to real-debrid instead?

I use this as my main provider.
All 3 servers setup in SSL. I also have a block from cheapnews and some smaller indie servers.

I get pretty much everything complete these days.

EDIT:

If you use astra, make sure you setup all the servers (EU, General and US).

Astra were awful 2 years ago when the DCMA thing ramped up, i dread to think what they're like now...

Voted cold for an unusable service.

whats difference from torrents and this?

my torrent speeds R always good....

I've been with them for many years now. I think I'm currently on a deal where it is $15 for every 2 months unlimited DSL

I agree with everyone complaining about Astra Web, I have been with them for around 8 years or so now. The past couple years or so there have been a lot of take downs, missing files etc. This happens with even regular UK british shows, for example Traffic Cops!
Currently the way it stands is, if something new is posted and you don't grab it within the first day or so then forget it as you will not be able to download it unless someone reposts with it being renamed etc. But now more recently I am getting really fed up of it as now nearly everything I have been clicking on in the past few weeks, even if its just been posted is missing, damaged or taken down straight away. I have been thinking for a while to leave them. Put it this way, I have had to use torrents more now to grab things that aren't getting downloaded on Astra so I'm even in a position thinking that is paying for a Usenet service even worth it now?
But I will check Tweak News out and see what packages they have, any other good ones?
Currently I am paying $15 every 2 months for unlimited, which works out at around between 8-10 quid every 2 months depending on the exchange rate at the time.

Torrents by their very nature can be tracked.

LeeJS

Torrents by their very nature can be tracked.

why does that matter?

I still pay for my Newsdemon account but I have no idea why anymore. All the NZB sites I used to use are long dead I should get rid now particularly since my beloved nzbtvseeker disappeared I can't really justify paying for it especially when private trackers have me covered.

I've been using Usenet for years, but as a previous poster has said I've made the switch to direct downloads. I use alldebrid, it's really good and you can download torrents directly from their server. Full speed too.

I just buy a 500gb block from newsgroupdirect when on offer for $25

They have good retention, maxes my 70mbps connection and not many dead files.
