You need to put it’s a refurb in the title op!!!
Was thinking of getting young tarquin something like this for Christmas, something to do his Latin homework on and surf his interest in ancient Egyptology. Why is it going cold at 1hundred English pounds, is there a better alternative.
Great price. At 1KG this makes a great budget travel laptop. You can even charge by usb c.
And with the slow CPU it will be hard not to get the 10 hours battery.

Have you considered a used Encyclopedia Britannica? They are good value these days. Would look great next to the Royal Doulton
Good price for a basic chromebook.

Supported with updates until November 2023. support.google.com/chr…=en
Thanks, ordered
I was tempted by this but the YouTube reviews put me off (they say the screen is terrible and it lags once you have a few tabs open, etc...,).

Having said that, as a simple web browser or for doing homework, etc... It's a bargain.

Screen is TN and thus low power. 4GB memory means anything more than 12 tabs open and you will struggle.
The drawback is the 720p screen. As it is a laptop, viewing angles are less important.

Good value and probably better quality than the Acer version
Could somebody please recommend a good laptop? Just for browsing, music, storing photos, watching movies. Not much of a budget but really need something that won’t lag and play up. Thank in advance

This, with an SD card if you need additional storage.

ChromeOS or Windows? If unsure, do you spend most of your time in your browser or more in software programs?

You mention "storing photos" - are you open to cloud storage rather than storing locally on a machine (latter can be a bad idea if that's the only place they're stored)? How do you usually watch your movies, streaming?

'play up'....it sounds like your not very confident with Windows 10 laptops so I would definitely recommend a chrome book. Large screen ones with FHD screens are £300+ unless on sale but if you keep checking sites like Argos Ebay you can get reconditioned 14" chrome books for under £150. I got a 14" Acer chrome book with a 32gb hd from there a couple of months ago for £120 and is absolutely fine for a budget chrome book for browsing, storing music, photos etc. etc. If your not sure about chrome books have a look on you tube for "chrome book user guide" to see how easy they are to use.

Are you referring to the Acer chromebook 11.
Acer has an IPS but lesser spec, this has a TN display.

The Acer chromebook R11 is similar to this in speculation, Also, superior than this Asus.

HP Chromebook 14-db0003na 14 Inch(AMD Dual Core A4, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB eMMC, 100 GB Cloud Storage with Google One (1 Year Subscription) is £179 new on Amazon at the moment - amazon.co.uk/dp/…ZP7 Might be worth a look @Elaine_Adamson if you like the look of ChromeOS and think it meets your needs.

Hi, I have photos on cloud storage but also want to install loads onto laptop that are on discs from years ago. I would prefer chrome OS but have been working with windows 10. Yeah I stream my movies . Hope this helps in recommending something guys and thanks to those that already have. Honestly my budget is £150 at the most

A Chromebook with an external drive (for your photos) might work for you. Chromebooks are all about cloud storage, so never have large amounts of storage on board. Assuming this means you also don't use or need full blown Microsoft Office or any other applications that you can't install on ChomeOS. You can of course use Google Docs and MS Office online, worth giving a shot first if you're not familiar with them.

Definitely worth considering the new HP 14" Chromebook I've posted above to while it's still £170.
Chromebooks are great. Easy to transport. Super quick to start. Good battery. And you can install apps on a lot of them these days. I use mine all the time. Google docs and sheets are a good alternative to the MS office products as well.
If only this had an IPS panel like the acer, gah.

Have just purchased this Margie! Advise taken, had a good look @nd went with it. Just want to say thanks to everybody for all your help, honestly was overwhelmed that so many people would take the time to help, thank you .
Bought this and it arrived today. Only been using it for a brief time. But it's quick, browsing is good, screen is fine, I've tried both Google docs/sheets and ms word/excel online versions. All seemed to work fine, tiny bit of a lag maybe but it started to settle once fully loaded. Youtube works, netflix works. Prime video app is awful but prime video via the amazon website is spot on. Can't complain for 100 quid, cheers op
