A much-respected Chromebook that is the cheapest it's been, reaching £159.99 previously. Spec is perfectly good for a Chromebook with 4GB RAM and a moderately-decent dual-core Celeron with 32GB storage, the only slight let-down would be the HD display but can't have it all. Nice design with thin bezel display and metal lid so it looks and feels premium. Doesn't have a touchscreen - I know exactly who will complain about this, but not all of us want one!

Also appears to have Google Play storage apps and USB-C connections.

Use voucher to get this price.

It is a REFURBISHED machine with 6 months warranty but it is ASUS Official Certified Refurbished.

With dual high-quality stereo speakers and extra-large resonant chambers that generate high-fidelity audio, it can deliver surround-sound effects that are as good as much larger laptops, with crisp and powerful sound to give you an immersive experience for both music and video streaming.

Tbh, I’m not a big fan of Asus laptops or GPUs either but this one has come up before and people seem to like it. But you have got 6 months warranty on this and I assume you can extend beyond that. HUKD loves their Chromebooks anyway so I took a chance!
An auto update expiration date of Nov 2023 means that you'll get a full 4 years of updates too, so good longevity. only downside of this is the screen, no ips and 720HD

No hesitation in giving heat for this great price for a very capable Chromebook

Cheers - it was a close call whether I bothered or not, especially at 1am. I got the refurb Acer CB3-431 with full HD IPS for £99 the other day but that's long gone now, this seems to be a viable alternative with a similar premium build. I never 'got' Chromebooks until I actually tried one - I assumed the spec was dreadful, couldn't have been more wrong.

The deal has expired now for the 10% off....but there was a tad of conflicting view on the deal.

If you need a CB today, this isn't a bad deal.

On the other hand, I think there will be slightly better deals to come along if you can wait.

I agree with SOL, that it's also worth paying a touch more for one with a Touchscreen.

Not hot or cold from me.

It was on HUKD and he got the hump because I bought from the same seller and received two pieces of trashed crap - it was nothing personal but I will not be buying from newandusedlaptops4u on eBay again - go check the T450s thread to verify that I'm not alone!

This was his thread and my only beef was with the seller, not the poster:

Someone appears to have received a good laptop for the money though so I guess it's variable and pot luck.

As to touchscreen, it's personal preference really and you know you want it or you don't. I have machines with it but rarely use it.

I agree that I rarely use my Touchscreen either. However, when I hook up my CB to my TV, it's so easy to swipe the share screen notification away, (rather than using the touchpad and the button at the same time,) when the laptop is sitting on the floor, which makes using the trackpad difficult.

In poster’s defence, the X250 laptops seemed to be from a different source and were vastly better, even came with a genuine PSU.

What would you say this one is missing (touchscreen aside) that it would be worth waiting out for?

I know nothing of Chromebooks but I'm on the lookout for something cheap that I can use for browsing, writing some essays, and maybe streaming YouTube / Netflix if that's viable in a cheap and cheerful world.

Probably a FHD or IPS screen coopd1. These low end CB's tend to have washed out TN panels. Also think about screen brightness if you plan to watch Youtube or Netflix in direct sunlight.

Appreciate that, thanks

I'll hold back for now..

As far as the ram, processor, storage etc would you expect this could have coped fine with what I need, but screen is the let down?

The N3350 is a dual core chip. It's OK if you don't want lots of multitasking. You can max this chip out, if you are using the Android version of Skype, and then open another app when on a video call. The call then becomes choppy. On the web version of skype, things are fine if you open another app. If you want better multitasking, you'll need the quad core N3450 or N4200.

32GB of storage is fine.

Yes, I expect the screen is the biggest drawback of this machine. Maybe another member can chime in, who owns the machine?

I have the C523N which I got for a steal the other day, just fractionally bigger than this. Screens are a bit of let down and dim but it’s not mega-money either - if you need full HD IPS just give this a miss but you'd expect to pay a fair bit more too.

I hear you about the dual and quad-core, even Chromebooks have their limits despite the light OS - if you’re going to be doing serious multitasking I’d argue maybe a powerful Windows machine may suit you better though - that Lenovo ThinkPad linked above or some Dell/HP ex-lease would be an obvious choice.

Try and bag the Acer CB3-431 with full HD IPS, you can occasionally find them for £100-120 but also Cash Converters seem to sell them for peanuts if you’re lucky. They do come in many versions so be sure to get the FHD, 4/32GB version not the HD 2/16GB.

That first Acer is great but it’s also pretty expensive and gets within striking distance of i3 and Ryzen 3 Windows laptops. Part of the allure of Chromebooks is the performance and spec at a low cost.
