Was $387 (£289) on black friday. Nice chromebook, I bought one from amazon UK for £429 and very impressed. Be aware that this will be a US keyboard layout and not UK layout.
Crap storage, crap ram, crap processor, Should be about £250
Cold this is recent laptop price territory. Can get a current gen i3 and ssd, FHD display laptop for this money. Chromebooks are great if all you do is browse the web and do basic documents but I bought a HP 4 gig RAM Chromebook for £120 grade A return several years ago which is about all a Chromebook should cost
Not much difference between this and the Acer R13 (apart from processor but less of an issue with a Chromebook). That is £399 normal price. I grabbed one from Amazon for £260ish on a warehouse deal not long ago. Anything over £300 seems a bit much for a Chromebook I feel. I'm not knocking them as think they're great but I've still got the Acer C720 which is going strong and that's about 5 years old
This has a backlit keyboard plus a better processor than the R13 so worth the extra if you care about that. And to the person recommending a windows laptop.. I’d pick this anyday over a slow i3 windows machine if all you do is browse the web, this is a fast chromebook and the best available in the UK right now for not silly money

If you knew anything about chromebooks you’d know that these specs are perfectly fine. You don’t need 8GB of RAM for chrome OS...

This according to the reviews in one of the best Chromebooks about. Just below the pixel . I want a notebook that gives me quick internet access and good quick word processing, this is ideal. I've experienced to much of constant maintenance with Windows laptops which is one of the reasons why I sold my £999 HP Envy which had a i7 processor and 16gb of ram

But this is FHD (inc Touch screen), the M3 is just as expensive as an i3 and it has an SSD so not sure what your point is!

The point is it will forever be limited with chrome OS. You get more bang for your buck with a windows machine. I mean heck you can't even have Skype on Chromebook or ITunes even. Who cares if it has touch screen if there's nothing worth touching

Now you are making a valid point. However, the limited nature of Chrome is part of its appeal to some as much as that surprises you. Some just want a basic machine with limited functionality which is also very low maintenance compared with Windows 10 which is an operating system that is fighting the user as much as helping you.
Also, some people like touch-screens as strange as that sounds to you.

So then a computer with limited functionality, lower raw cost of parts and overall offers less than a windows machine should be reflected in its price. I.e. £200-250 maybe £300 absolute maximum.

You Skype in this day and age! And good lord iTunes! Why would anyone who doesn't have Apple products even want to touch that with a bargepole!

Why do people always compare Chromebooks to Windows Laptops? The reasons for buying one is totally different.
I will never buy another windows machine, having used Chromebooks for a few years. Most people who buy a laptop
do not really need one, or all the extra software they need to buy to protect it.

The other half's Laptop has kept me busy for days trying to clean it up and speed it up.
Today's super fast laptop will slow to a crawl within months, will require anti virus, anti spyware and other software installing. She will have a Chromebook eventually.

A point about storage, you can manage with a minimum, consider it temporary storage only, it will never be used to install programs or anti Virus. A 2 minute 'power wash' restores the chromebook back to factory reset, wiping the drive.
So drive size should not be a major consideration in buying.

Instead for permanent storage install an SD card and move files there.

However iTunes is used by millions as is Skype, your opinion isn't a popular one and thus doesn't justify a Chromebooks lack of content

It has a metal body and a flexible hinge allowing it to be used in tablet mode, hence the touch screen, so how much would a similar Windows laptop cost? At least £400 I imagine.
In other words its a premium Chromebook hence the price. Some people like to buy premium products.

so the same price but can do loads more on it. If premium means paying more to have less, ill pass on premium and i think most others will too hence the low heat score

It's clear that YOU don't get it but others do hence Chromebooks are still on sale afters years and this has heat close to 200.
It's not all about your requirements as others have different ones to you. It's myopic not to grasp that.
I don't want a Chromebook myself but if I did I may well want a premium one like this as I like good quality hardware.
Considering the mess that is Windows 10 I imagine more people might be jumping ship.

This is a chromebook so you cannot install ms office software in this as this uses Google's operating system no Microsofts.this is superfast however compared to a Windows operating system. You should be fine with a budget of £400 with a selection on Amazon.i would wait until the new year now !
