I've been looking to get one of these for a while and the price has just come down from £179.99. It looks like Currys have done an auto price match too as they are showing it at £159.99 from today.

I understand that the firmware has been an issue on this DSL model but is now sorted. The RT version (router only) is very highly regarded.

I have the router only version which is fantastic - I hope the firmware update has solved the problems with this because the reviews were mixed.

The DSL model problems all been sorted now, was their a recent firmware release?

Poor reviews on the modem side of things?

The router part is good. However, the DSL modem part is utter rubbish and, several firmware versions later, still not fit for purpose. See 32 pages of fault-finding at forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho…945

It appears Asus are relying on hobbyists to do their beta testing. Avoid this like the plague until it receives a positive outcome on that forum above. In the meantime, go for a Billion 8800nl or 8800axl.

No, it still hasn't been sorted, despite the plethora of firmware releases. There's a vague impression that disabling spectrum on the modem improves things, but there's no definitive evidence that this was the problem all along, and that it's now good to go. There's still plenty more testing to be done. Don't expect much more news until well into January.

There was me thinking the firmware had been sorted! I guess this is still a good price on the basis that they do sort it. :-)

I'm not going to take the risk with this just yet then. I have been following that thread on overclockers and must say it goes over my head with all this talk of spectrum.

Anybody got any thoughts on this -

For Plusnet Fibre?

I imagine it's getting cheaper because it's just not selling - I can only imagine that other retailers are getting as many returns of it as PC World have been. It's a shame it's a dud, as I was looking to get one of these. We might see a mk2 version released with a different DSL chipset.

Shame the modem isn't up to much a present because Asus are making some nifty kit...

Like others have said, go for a Billion in the meantime if you're desparate.

Got this router and its excellent even got the wifi card for the PC, has excellent signal on the top floor of a town house.

Whoa! Still over £159 after 1 year on the market? Expected it to drop like all other routers after 12 months.

Is the AC87 router (or whatever the new one is called) out yet? That's probably priced around the 190-220 mark.

How long has this been out for? And it still doesn't work properly. How can they be getting away with this. At at this price. Somebody somewhere is laughing but forget them, what about all those crying. Can we not do anything ?

I've got one on BT Infinity, had a couple of firmware versions but it's always been rock solid. I read the overclockers thread beforehand, but figured I'd risk it and am glad I did. Needed a little help from tech support getting it connected initially and Asus Tech Support were fantastic, since then hasn't skipped a beat.

No regularly dropped connections, crc errors, or slow downs?
