Asus Eee 900 Pre-order NEW MODEL 20GB SSD, 1GB RAM £329

This is the replacement to the Asus Eee 701. It's improvements include:

8.9" screen instead of 7"
1024 x 800 resolution instead of 800 x 600 (much better for surfing)
1GB RAM instead of 512MB
20GB SSD instead of 4GB (You can also order a version with XP, but it only has 12GB)

I suppose the main question is whether this is worth the extra £100. I would say it is. an extra 16GB of storage is worth £40, and you don't sacrifice the USB or SD card slots to get it. The extra RAM is another £20 of value, but the main benefit is the larger screen. There were also rumours that this would have touch-screen functionality (though the product spec doesn't mention it).

I would guess these will sell out fast, so get your orders in!

EDIT: Available for the same price from Play, but 5% voucher and quidco make it cheaper.

normal price and this pre-order batch wont have the Atom

The 701 was selling at above RRP for a good six months, so RRP may well work out cheaper than what you can actually get it for upon release.

Rather buy the HP 2133, cheaper and better!

Linky? Thought it was going to be more expensive.

Not really. It has a slow VIA CPU
Once Atom is out in June and HP replaces the VIA, then it will be a contender

All priced at £329 inc VAT

So it looks like 8Gb of SSD space is sacrificed in order to cover XP licensing. You can of course bring your own copy of XP to install on the Linux based ones at a later date.

Or even 8GB

Personally I think if you want the EEE 900 go for Linux and then you can install XCP if you want and nLite it to reduce the rubbish you do not need.
The HP 2133 looks good except for the CPU but when VIA release the new Isaiah chip that thing should be quick and is a straight drop in replacement for the current C7 VIA chip. Also HP plan to do a Intel Atom version.
What I do know is that I am holding off till summer when Isaiah and Atom are out and both these chips should mean a reasonable speed increase.

Not really around the £500 mark...

Best hold fire for a couple of months, there's going to be plenty of choice in this space.

Yeah wait for the Atom
Speed increase and longer battery life

Just thought I'd let everyone know that it's also available though Play.com, which works out at around £300 after the 5% voucher and quidco.

This is the RRP so it's not a hot deal at this price.

I thought the 2133 was supposed to be 450USD? Should hopefully work out to about £250.

$500 for the model which has only 4GB storage and 512MB RAM.

HP actually have a number of different configurations like Asus but HP's combinations are much more varied. Have a look at the following, straight from HP...

Will either of these have a internal HSDPA sim card slot... you know built in modem, so we don't have to carry our 3 usb modems...............?

doubt it

$500 usually means we get stiffed for £500!

I would tend to agree with those suggesting to hold fire for now on this one, I think it's going to be a fairly big market, so it won't be long before there are a few more machines on the market which can only be a good thing, more choice and (probably) better prices.

Ordered one from Play. Great mini laptop.

The 1GB Linux model with the 120GB Hard disk is $549 in the USA not $450
In the UK with Windows XP £457
A review said it was very slow compared to the Asus due to the 5400RPM hard disk and C7 processor.
