The 80GB version has Windows XP as the operating system which adds a fair bit to the price.

Ah ok, I didn't spot that!

That's a lot cheaper than the 904HA that's advertised on Amazon UK and on Play.com UK!

Well worth a look at this one unless I can get my hands on a Dell Mini 9 for £99.00p! ;-)

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

At least you got your foot in the door mate, I was far to late! :?

I must admit this does look a good deal, so I'm off to do some digging around to get some price comparisons but I'm thinking about putting in an order this weekend - thanks for the poster for creating this thread!

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Well windows only comes in one version. There are several iterations but they all work the same way.

Linux operating systems on the other hand come in lots of different versions (distributions/distros) that often work and look different so it's impossible to give you a simple comparison.

Perhaps the most important point though is that windows programs don't work* on linux and vice-versa so you may have to find new programs. However, many of the most popular programs like skype, openoffice, opera, thunderbird and firefox have Linux versions.

*It is possible to try and run windows programs using something called Wine but it's not seamless.

As to finding the cheapest laptop, it's like finding the cheapest DVD. You could probably do so but there's no guarantee the film on it would be any good. If you want to look at a range of laptop then somewhere that sells lots of them like laptopsdirect.co.uk/ would be a good place to start.

I took possession of mine yesterday.
the delivery was fast, although I did have to email the customer support for an update, as I'd only had confirmation via Google checkout and not the actual company.
They emailed me back promptly and I soon received my tracking info, followed by the eee itself.

I have to say it's a fantastic piece of kit.
Very well made and the performance is blinding.
I've already installed WinXP pro (not keen on Linux) and it runs perfectly.

*Thumbs Up*

Only £287.49 for the XP version.

Aye, would have paid the extra but I already have a copy of Windows XP Pro from my old pc so I thought I'd save to 20 quid
