Sorry 'not surf' meant this is not the more basic surf version. The surf one doesn't have a webcam. This one DOES have the webcam.

So this is the fully loaded 4G model then?

Doesn't say if it's black, the picture is black but nothing text wise to say which colour it is

My order email says : Subject to availability, the order will be delivered :whistling:

great price

im sure they are other currys vouchers floating around

April 2008, I read.

I'm waiting for that model personally.

march/April in Asia, more like june/july in Europe.

And how much more will it be? I'd guess at least £100-150, which is a lot extra for just a slightly bigger screen and a few extra gig of disk space.

i dont hink itll be that much more expensive since they are trying to stay ahead of all the competeing brands that are also coming out. i am guessing it'll under £300 ...or, expect them to cut the current price for the eee's and the new ones can come in at £250.

voted hot. however, think im gonna wait for the new version too. It would sicken me to be sat in a bar/coffee shop and see someone walk in with a new one where there was no dead space on the screen top, with me having to look at a 7inch screen knowing if id waited a little bit longer i'd have a lot more. patience is a virtue.

Good deal i have the Black 4G with Webcam edition i bought it from Pcworld site it was pictured as the white model though on there site at the time  i ended up installing Xp on my eee there very nice compact laptops great for carrying about with being so small compared to a regular laptop

€400 apparently, which directly converts to £310, so possibly £300-£350-£400, who knows.Asus have said it's just a guideline price at the moment, so could change.
We'll just have to wait and see tbh!

great find good price....also waiting to see how much the 9" model is

I tied one of these at PC World nice and small but many of the programs are freeware ie openoffice

Really wanted one of these ,but benefitted from the Hp530 misprice deal. Can,t stop looking at these though. It works out to be the cheapest 4g & its in stock. Pretty rare for an eee.

I've ordered mine, expect the 900's after summer, with the run upto xmas I can see them become the Xmas 2008 must have and great demand, so this will do for now.

A little worried though, as it does not mention the colour, if they send me a white one I'm going to cry.

Played about with the first one they brought out, the novelty wore off in about an hour. They are not great to use for more than 30 mins, the keys are too small and you will get cramp. Its a neat little laptop though and ideal to keep hidden away in the living room so you can have a sneek peek of the interwebz when the missus is watching Trisha.

I think this release is more likely - i mean the 8gb 7" version hasnt even been released here yet (was originally supposed to be released by now) let alone the pink and green colours which also should have been released now but the release date keeps getting pushed back. Asus cant keep up with demand and unless they totally forego the 8gb version then the 9" screen wont be here for many months yet

Don't mean to be a git, but arnt these the most pointless waste of money? I mean, surely for the same money get a much better laptop (albeit old still) & install linux yourself? Basically it's an over the top web browser? Not going to vote, that wouldn't be fair. But honestly, what where the makers thinking? Cheep buck. Not knocking the finding, just putting it out there.

for the 9'' version, here is a video. As someone already mentioned, for the Europe market, it cost 399 euro.

I had one of these - you can install XP but it really comes into its own if you like Linux. There is a one line command you can type in that unlocks full OS mode, you then have a FULL MODE option next to the shutdown icon. Works like any other Linux distro then.

Id recommend this to anyone as long as youre willing to accept the small resolution. Excellent for travellers.

good deal, but I'm waiting for an 8gb so I can use xp

It's obviously not for you . But for the spec, the weight and size , there is nothing to match it at this price.
It is for those of us who like to travel and stay connected without carrying around 3kg. lumps.
More than 500,00 sold so they must be doing something right.
And yes, I've got one .

Surf is the basic non-webcam model. This should be the webcam model. These are so hard to get hold of most places have been selling them well above RRP - just RRP is considered a bargain to some, so to find it in stock and at discount -Fantastic deal, this! HOT HOT HOT! REP REP REP!

One of these things where size matters, it fits in a little cubby hole in my car so handy for carrying around but easy to keep out of site. A lot more discreet for using at WiFi hotspots Mcdonalds, Wetherspoons etc

Oh, can't we add rep anymore?

Well I've basically purchased this for pure travel use, ideal for backing up my photos from my memory cards on holiday, watching movies on the plane, listening to music on the go, the web is a bonus because I can use google earth and send emails and use skype from my hotel room.

I've looked at the Nokia N810 Internet tablet and other UMPC devices, but this goes miles above that, if it had Sony branded it on it you would be looking at £1500 easy!

Anyone thinking this is a toy is sadly mistaken.

I have the 2G Surf, and have since regretted the decision not to have bought the 4G for several reasons. Over the 2G Surf, the 4G has:

- a faster running processor
- upgradeable memory capability
- webcam
- bigger capacity battery
- more storage

This is a bargain. I was going to sell the one I have and get a 4G, until I saw that the 900 series is coming out later this year.
Also, XP (full) installs on my 2G Surf (along with OpenOffice & Firefox), so you'll have no problems with this 4G if that's what you want to do.

Have a look at the tech specs on the Currys site:

Weight: 916 kg

Doesn't sound particularily portable to me, must be making these out of adamantium now i guess ;-)

S.O.B - I bought one of these last week in white (when i wanted the black). Ahh well I'll get the black on when I upgrade to the 9" come down to a reasonable price.

BTH Voted hot.

Ditto.
I bought mine from PC World, thinking that it would be white, only to get the bonus of a lovely black one.

I'm able to surf and read my email on my lunch break at work.
The size and weight are just perfect.

The 9" model is slightly bigger, heavier and will cost more.

Sold my SamsungQ45 notebook 12" (£800) and I haven't looked back. I takeit to work with me every day, something I rarely did with my Q45.

has anyone ordered from currys before on this thread? how do they pack their items? in boxes or do they just slap an address label on them.

only asking as I ordered a PS3 from Dixons a few month ago and it came with no protective box just label on it and battered to death by parcel force
