Wandering round my local Tesco tonight and came across the Asus EeeBook X205TA reduced from £179 to £139. I was looking for a Windows netbook so really liked the small form factor and the bright red case. I felt that the brushed aluminium gave it a quality feel. I'm not a computer geek or techie so can't offer a detailed review on the spec but here's Asus take on it and a review below. It also comes with 12 months subscription to Office 365.

I have to apologise in advance that it's not as good as a Mac Book Pro

I bought this in Tesco Silverburn (Glasgow) and they only had red in stock.

scraches well easy the gold one anyway and part of the logo fell of for me and screws kept falling out of the bottom so i sent it of to asus to be repaired from the scratches it came with and missing screws and i got it back with another scratch on the side and the screws have fallen out again probably in the hoover

Never had an Asus before and the only similar priced netbook they had in Tesco was 100% plastic. Any problems with it and Mr T will be getting it straight back.

Why didn't you just send / take it back to the retailer you purchased it from?.

Oh and one of letter key was hanging of and you try typing on a 3 inch phone
These are great machines, nice-quality and performance for the money, but there is no aluminium brushed or otherwise in sight - it's all plastic. My machine has a warped keyboard deck but it's still usable and very lightweight for tossing in the backpack, you barely notice it, it's so lightweight.
We have two of these and they make good cheap ultra-portable browsing and WP machines. Battery life is great, you can add an SD/XD card which you may need, as internal storage is limited. No its not a Macbook, it's not fast, you can't game on it etc. It's just a cheap ibut nicely made laptop weighing under 1 kilogram.

You can move to Windows 10 but you *need* an SD/XD card or the upgrade will fail.
It has a small proprietary charger so you can't rely on a phone-style charger if travelling.
We like them, which is why we have two, and nothing has fallen off either of ours !
Get a cheap neoprene slipcase to avoid scratching it.

They are often around this price if you wait - look out for one with 1 year's Office 365 subscription bundled.
