Was looking at these and the Acer Revo R3700. Quite like the look of this ASUS as it has a built in DVD drive.

Yep, the optical drive clinches it for me as the wife prefers her CDs and DVDs, the only issue I have with it is that it's white!

Where can I pre-order? I don't see an option anywhere on their site.

Dammit, just posted this... OP: you could at least spell my name right!

should i or shouldnt i??

Heat added.

Pity about the wired keyboard and mouse, though.

Buy a cheap external optical drive. also you buy them shop.xtreamer.net/

I've already looked there. I don't see any option to buy or pre-order an Ultra.

The Xstreamer Ultra specs look good for the price as it includes 4GB RAM. It doesn't appear to ship with a disk, though. (Makes sense, so you can fit whatever size disk you want...)

Awesome Deal !!!

I had one fo the old Acer R3610's was never happy with it from day 1 really.
Been waiting for the Asus deals and a price drop really.

Cant wait to get this now

I've been looking on the Xtreamer site and also can't see any options on pre-order.

i take it the xtreamer is the best option if it ships with 4gb. I have an external 500gb hard drive which i can use with it.

Although the Asus does look handy with a cd drive. Decisions!!

I'd have preferred it in black but it aint worth £110 more

This must be a pricing error / Short term price match ???

I cant see anyone selling it under the £300 mark at the moment?

Why? I think £360 is a bit steep given the specs. £250 looks about right to me.

what do you mean why?
one colour is 360, one is 250
110 for a colour change? now THAT seems a bit steep.
sensible reasoning could include misprice or pricematch (dunno who pricematching though)
this is basically the revo with integrated dvd drive, windows 7 and usb3 - worth alot more than the 50quid premium over the 200quid revo.
doesn't seem to include optical but then i dont care about that though others might.

People go crazy for the Revo deal (I nearly bought one too) yet this deal which to me looks definitely better than the current revo but it's nowhere near as hot.

The Revo deal (Christmas), was £70 less, with wireless keyboard and mouse!

3610 was clearance so needed shifted, it was a generally inferior machine no matter the actual level needed by many

But this deal has the optical drive and 2 front-facing USB3 ports (and Win 7) which is why I had been holding out for this model compared to the Revo deals. I think the revos are great wee machines but the optical drive on the asus was the clincher for me (though yes it is a shame about the keyboard and mouse!)

Damn, this looks so much nicer than my Revo 3610, and cheaper too... (although that was six months ago now)

For us the revo deal was superb, it's a great bit of kit & came along at just the right time (low energy computing ..woohoo)!
If you travel around with a net book like we do in order to just keep in touch when travelling & sling it in your hand luggage then you'll already have a few portable devices which then get stashed in your luggage, makes no odds to most people once they're used to not having an onboard dvd drive...
I'm so old I still look out for a floppy drive! ..s'just the way it go's & the tech you are familiar with.
Think i'll hang fire for a new revo deal as low energy means alot to us! plug in other bits as & when you need em!
Heat, good price, nice kit! ..get your needs sorted against your wishes & realities... sorted!

christ my bad it is, oh i want one of these looks like the revo will be up for sale,

anyone know what size hard drive ??

Can you easily take out the hard drive of this machine, I've seen some that just pull out?

Most people in the market for one of these machines aren't as attached to their optical drives as your missus. A lot of people buy one specifically to get away from all that. Usb 3 doesn't offer speed over the revo's esata, it's more versatile but the real killer use for it has yet to be found, although I dare say it can't be far off. This is a great machine but it isn't as hot because its advantages have niche appeal.

But a lot of people judging by customer feedback on sites where they have bought then do use them as small home PCs. The equivalent REVO is £285. Which doesn't get you an optical DVDRW drive, USB3 or eSATA or a remote control - and I suspect these have much better wireless performance too.

but its not a computor though is it ???

it kind of is! you could put all the systems ie winxp, vista, win7, linux etc.

Lucky you, will prob get mine on monday since I'm up in schottland

These came back into stock for a couple of hours today. I managed to get the last one. Think it's a better deal than the 200 quid revo due to the slightly larger HD, the DVD writer and the included operating system. To me it makes sense to spend the extra 50 quid for those extras.

I'm going to use it mainly for XMBC anyway so may not use the operating system as it might be better under linux anyway. The Windows 7 licence willbe very handy as I was looking at upgrading my laptop from XP anyway.

Has anyone got much to say about these yet. Reviews are good but I'd like to see how people have actually got on with it.

Well ive been using mine for a bit now.

Confirmed with Asus about removing the lid and upgrading the memory will not void any warrenty. I chucked in another 2GB so running 4GB DDR3.

Removed ALL the asus software as it was worthless.
Uninstalled a few demo software and anythign i didnt require.
Tweaked a few settings in Windows 7 and got rid of some windows components.

Installed Boxee

And its damn good!! Really a different class to the Acer unit i had for a few weeks.
Im using it with my Logitech mini Dinovo keyboard and wow its just what i want from a media pc.

The extra £50 notes over the Revo deal was worth it as you get good value for money.
