GeForce 1650
Ryzen 3550H
Thats 100 quid cheaper than I paid 2 months ago. Hot for me
£20 less with code BF20 apparently
What is the display brightness like? Asus usually dim.
Personally I'd wait until Nvidia starts shipping the new DDR6 equipped, mobile 1650 'Super' GPU almost certainly at the same cost. It sounds like the gaming performance bump will be worth hanging on for.

Does it have a 120hz screen? It's in the picture, but I can't find it in the blurb. It also says it has 6gb graphics and an 8.8hr battery, which contradicts the listed spec of only 4hrs battery life. Confused

Is this the same one you can get on Very for 505£?

It is, although you'll have to be quick as the credit back offer ends tomorrow. I went for the 17.3" for £20 more than the 15.6" and have already had the credit back of £130 confirmed by early January.

Guess it depends on if you're happy to take the 6 months BNPL and wait a couple of months to get the credit back, but it was a no brainer for me. Never had an issue with Very myself, and the 17.3" was a good £150 more everywhere else I could see online with the credit back applied.

Nice one. The bnpl offer isn't open to me as I used it last Christmas and haven't used Very since. I phoned up and they said that part of my account is suspended, but I could pay it 9ff over 3 months if I wanted, but without the 20% discount. I said I'd think about it lol

I was thinking of using my partner's details to see if I can get it, but reckon my address might hinder that. We'll see.

The very real problem with that, when that comes out, someone will be telling folk to hang on for the price drop, price drops, we've then to wait for the next big thing and so the cycle continues. If i listened to every single one of these warnings, I wouldn't own a single piece of electrical equipment. Folk say the same with consoles; "OMFG, wait for the 2nd run, wait for the slim, wait for the pro, wait for the PS5" and the same logic continues with the PS5.

Sometimes you've just got to take the plunge because, aye, we'd never actually purchase anything in life other than food.

The 17.3 is currently available for 599 with AO.com at their Ebay shop. I bought it recently for £30 less with a code PICKME5. Giving a total of 569. On their website it is currently 629 which clearly can be significantly reduced using cash back sites. It was delivered after a couple of days and I am very happy with it. I agree with the point why not go for the 17.3 and a bigger screen for a similar price .

Glad you like the 17.3 mate - picking mine up tonight. Came out at £520 with the Very credit back offer, so very pleased

I think you have to wait 30 days as a new customer to qualify for BNPL mate, so you might be out of luck that way too sadly

Never been interested in "Gaming" and at times like this, I'm glad I wasn't. It looks an expensive hobby.

MSI Prestige 15 @ £1,165.99 offering "light" gaming

ASUS FX505DT @ £549.99 offering "awesome" gaming

How on earth can joe-public-know-nothing navigate the gaming technobabble swamp when one sees deals such as these?
Which of these is not to be believed?

Yes it does have a 120hz screen, gpu is 4gb and yeah 4hrs battery. TBH you would have it plugged in to take full advantage of the 1650.

Mate, it doesn't offer "light" gaming, it is a gaming laptop which is light weight. It's an ultraportable that can also play games, whereas this is just a gaming laptop.

So both are correct and this one is actually slightly faster for games as it uses a full 1650 in place of the lower power 1650Q.

I was about to buy it today, while I was looking for a Laptop for work. I have resigned - it's loud under workload, dim display and I cannot believe that £500 laptop will be good overall for a long run.

I went for a "basic" i5 HP Laptop instead, which I can call "ultra portable"

This Asus isn't portable at all. Standalone charging brick weight is 0.5kg and laptop 2.3kg , so it's nearly 3kg to carry around.

I do get the point - it's the gaming laptop, needs to be more heavy, but I was personally in need for laptop to work, just was tempted due to the attractive price.
