So much lacking in this, I wouldn't know where to begin.

I want whatever you are on lol

I have i7 version, looked online and in different stores. For the spec these are great for the money, similar spec with other brands you are talking upto 1400/1500 or more lol

Away for a lie down you

meh. For 100 quid less maybe, but for £900 not a great deal.
Decent spec for a decent price. Heat.

I ain't on anything at the moment but my trust Galaxy Note 8. I've just recently done some research on spec to price ratio on previous HUKD deals- and based on that evaluation, I concluded this deal is pants.

What's lacking?

For me a 17” display, wouldn’t want to game on anything less.
The specs are pretty much all around well balanced. An i7 would be overkill and would be with an 1070 also for 95% of people. Has a decent sized SSD. Has a 120Hz screen. Pretty light for what it is. Only real down side is 8GB of ram, but I'm not 100% sure how often or if at all that would be a problem when matched with the 1060.

This ROG laptop is/was a good deal to be fair. But for sub £900 (at this moment in time) this ASUS i5 is a decent deal no matter which way you spin it imo

Fair enough. It's just I expect tons more whether it be £1k or just sub. I'm holding out.

Got this for 900 with Very when on offer, i7 was only slightly more than i5. Excellent, so far so good! The 8th gen CPU’s run cooler than older gen cpu’s and are much more powerful too!

These laptops have good spec for price, silly being critical.

Other brands you will pay much more for similar or less spec!

How do you find the screen and speakers?

Screen is good for price, ips, anti glare, Full HD 1080p, 120HZ screen refresh and 94% NTSC colour rated.

Speakers are not the best, would recommend a good gaming headset or connect it up to hifi/sound system with Bluetooth. The built in speakers don’t go very loud, when you have fans on overboost the noise can overpower standard speakers. You can’t have it all I suppose!

Great thing is Dolby 7.1 surround driver with this, get compatible headphones and put on directional sound and when you put on headphones that can take advantage of this you will hear where sound is coming from say you are getting shot at from the right, you will hear sound in your right ear or say footsteps.

Tried it out, also noticed it will give an effect on standard speakers when you go into driver without headphones. So kinda makes up for it a little, speakers on many gaming laptops aren’t the best to be fair.

FYI the FX504 limits the CPU to 25W even though it's a 45W chip. This is the case with both the i5-8300H and i7-8750H

Even though the i5-8300H is a great chip, you won't get the performance you should with this laptop

Galaxy note 8..... Talking about overpriced laptop with poor spec..... How ironic that is
If its the same screen as this one

hotukdeals.com/dea…767

Then the colours will initially appear washed out and overly bright. You can use the nvidia control panel to correct the contrast, brightness and colours, I'll post my settings up if anyone wants them

I jumped on the £900 after cashback i7 ,1060 6GB laptop from Very too.

The colours on the screen are excellent and the horizontal viewing angles on the screen are incredible, but what lets it down for me are the vertical viewing angles. It's not as bad as some awful TN panels but the colours do go funny very quickly. I'm still not going to complain that much as it's rare you'll need the screen to be at such an angle from your eyes anyway.

I feel like i should mention that this 8300H is actually similar to a 7700HQ but actually slightly faster.
The new i5 laptop processor is basically an marginally improved Kaby Lake i7

Also RAM is cheap to upgrade later. I would always buy less RAM and hard disk/SSD knowing I can fix that later at my convenience.

It's a lot of computer for the money. Even more so now the RTX series GeForces don't seem to be very appealing to anyone other than the extreme high-end with lots of excess money.
What’s the cooling like? Does it thermal throttle?
Seems decent - and it has the 6GB 1060, so together with the 8th gen i5 should handle most games with ease.

Won't benefit everyone, but with Very, if it's your first credit purchase, you can get an extra £100 of as well with code (MJWTM - it's on their site).

I have the ASUS FX504GM i7 version, I get no power throttling. I have monitored games with Intel XTU to watch for any, and also unistalled then used Throttlestop. (Don't use both at same time!)

XTU while running benchmarks/game tests showed no thermal throttling, Throttlestop showed no throttling either.

If you turbo the CPU it can go up to 3.9GHZ but if you don't have the right settings on MSI Afterburner/Throttlestop you CAN get throttling that way.

I have spent many hours with this laptop, if you get the right settings for the CPU and GPU you will be absolutely fine!

If you cannot find the right settings don't turbo the CPU, just undervolt the cpu core and cache until you do. Simple!

Throttle free gaming!

The whole thing is just strange. It doesn't always PT

Sometimes it will run at ~70C with all cores at 3.9GHz, and TDP is 35+

Other times it will be at <50C with all cores limited and TDP limited to 25W

This is with pretty decent undervolting (-.210 and -.250 on the iGPU)

TDP is not limited to 25W on my laptop, what bios do you have installed?

Before updating bios the limit didn’t go above 15w, after bios was updated it went well above that so it’s not limited to 15/25w for me after updating bios.
