Update 22/02 - Now £969.97 (from the last offer of £999.97)

The i5-7300HQ version/model is also £849.97 - Here
Same spec other than the different CPU options. Both come with the free backpack

Looking around for an i7 1060 combo as I have seen a couple of people looking and I spotted this one over on Box. Looks a nice tidy set up overall. Comes with a free backpack as well, which is a bonus. It's the 6GB version of the 1060, I've seen a fair few with the 3GB model in lately, costing a more than this

I don't think there's anything that shows this for definite has a 120hz IPS screen. The generic image that advertises. It has small print warning you it differs per configuration.

So it's probable the laptop is using the same awful 60hz panel as reviewed here: notebookcheck.net/Asu…tml

Apart from screen it is a good deal for it's specifications but really I think most people would spend more for a screen that isn't so bad.

If someone does take a risk would be interesting to see if it is indeed only a 60hz TN panel.

AFAIK, there isn't a 120hz screen option for the FX series. Most likely 60hz. I do believe it's IPS, but not a very good one

Even with a question mark over the screen, this is a brilliant laptop at that magic £1k figure.
There are 120hz screens on this range, but there are also 60hz variants. Fingers crossed this is the former. asus.com/Lap…ns/
This should get hot.
Seems like the same laptop here (same company ??)

Both advertise it as having the 120Hz display if you scroll down to the overview section.

I think it's just about doable if you're not bothered about condition. It'll be an old, old graphics card but you should be able to play some stuff in low to medium settings.

I got a spotless 17 inch Clevo with a 1GB Nvidia 650M for £270 on Ebay last year. It could play Dirt Rally reasonably well.

You'll have to search pretty hard on Ebay, Gumtree and maybe Facebook and probably haggle too.

You're maybe looking at a desktop sans the monitor or maybe a decent android tablet but certainly not a laptop. Maybe save up for a bit?
Ram is upgradeable? How much does another 8gb go for?

Those overview sections can be missleading as they're not usually SKU specific. It's marketing blurb straight from the manufacturer. If you look at the retailers description it doesn't mention it being 120hz.

This kind of thing has started to annoy me recently as the screen is an important part of any laptop and quality can vary wildly. It's an easy way for manufacturers to cheap-out in an area where people generally ask the least questions.
Looking at the ASUS website it seems there are 3 screen options for the FX503

15.6" (16:9) LED backlit FHD (1920x1080) 60Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 45% NTSC with 178˚ wide-viewing angle display
15.6" (16:9) LED backlit FHD (1920x1080) 60Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 45% NTSC
15.6" (16:9) LED backlit FHD (1920x1080) 120Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 72% NTSC with 178˚ wide-viewing angle display

The 60hz wide-viewing angle looks like the IPS option but at 45% NTSC it looks pretty poor.
The 60hz at 45% NTSC is probably TN and should be avoided like the plague.
The 120hz wide-viewing angle at 75% NTSC looks like IPS and would be the best option.

Sure, but I'd say it's clear grounds to send it back free of charge at the very least if it wasn't 120Hz. I suspect if you phoned and asked they wouldn't have a clue if it was 120Hz, 60Hz or what a Hz was.

Probably not, I haven't had much luck in the past asking about specifics. Personally I wouldn't buy one assuming it was 120hz unless it specifically states in the retailers description that it is. That way you're totally covered by the Consumer Rights Act if you want to send it back under the "As described" clause.
gonna give them a ring tomorrow perhaps
I'ts not 120hz screen. It would say so on description.
Not worth 1k in my opinion, its better to wait for more valuable deals. There was laptop for 850£ month ago same specs like this and 120hz screen and no dodgy backpack, they just trying to upsell some rubish screen with decent specs. No thanks.

I bought the HP Omen with the VR headset at the beginning of January for £999. Had to send it back because of screen bleed. Gutted! Didn't keep the replacement as the screen issue seemed to be a problem specific to the model.

Good deals do come around occasionally, usually around the holidays. Easter will probably be the next good time for deals, though I doubt the headset offer will be about. It seemed to be a one-off push to get the headsets out there. 16GB Ram is a long shot at the grand mark tbh. An i7 with 8GB Ram, a 128GB SSD and 1060 6GB is your best bet.

not really going to happen for that much without getting lucky on ebay. Why do you want one? if just to game at home then a ps4 makes a lot more sense, if to game when your out and about a switch is much better. If you need a laptop and want to game then you need more money to not have a frustraiting expereince with anything but old and indie games

If you have a laptop already and have fairly decent internet atleast 20mb+ then sign up for one of the cloud computing gaming services. You pay a monthly fee depending on how many hours you game. There are a few to choose from and Ndivia are signing up people for their service. But in answer to your question you will get a laptop to play games for that price.
Gutted, paid £1,199 for this ASUS laptop (game.co.uk/en/…254) 3 days ago and it’s the exact same spec. Something always comes up cheaper a few days after I buy something expensive!
Does anyone know if there is much difference in performance between the i5 and i7?

If it’s just gaming you’ll be using it for then the i5 will do fine. Go for the i7 if you’re going to be doing graphic intensive tasks.

Yes, it’s called a PS4!
It depends, you aren't going to be able to play Battlefield 1, PUBG, Mass Effect Andromeda and stuff like that. They are even slow on low end current gen gaming laptops. You might find a second hand or refurbed Sandy or Ivy Bridge gaming laptop in that price range, which would probably be about as good as you could get in terms of GPU power for the price you mention. Though personally I would be tempted to go for a refurbed Haswell or Broadwell machine with integrated GFX. You would be limited to the less graphically demanding games (though Fortnite, GTA V, Civ 6 and plenty of Steam fare would work on lower settings) and it would actually be a functional work laptop with less than awful battery life.

We recently got a bunch of refurbed Lenovo X1 Carbons (3rd gen with i7 Broadwell) for £230 a piece at work. I didn't order them and we may have gotten a bulk discount, but there are probably similar to be had on eBay for not that much more. Haswell would be a bit slower and with worse battery life, but cheaper still.

Your soul
@BirchieBirch , I got the HP too and returned the first one due to the screen...got a replacement it and had the same issue but not as bad.

I kept the laptop and well happy with the performance and sorta forgotten about the screen issues, its just to tightly fitted at the bottom corners for some reason

I was so gutted, it really was an incredible deal - probably the best I've seen on here but I just couldn't deal with the screen quality. Regardless of the bleed issue, it looked washed out. I tried tweaking the screen settings but the lack of contrast meant there was only so much I could do to improve it. I do the odd bit of graphic design and 3D modelling so a good screen is important to me.

Add to that apparent DPC latencies (audio glitches what manipulating real time audio) it just wasn't any good for what I needed it for - I use Traktor and Sound Forge for DJing and processing audio.
i just bought an asua from CeX today for 630. the specs are asus fx503v i7 7700hq/8gb ram 1tb hhd + 128gb sdd gtx1050 2gb. although 2nd hand its mint condition. they said they may have more in near future. this was in camden branch.
