Cheapest I've seen it. It's not too bad for a cheap gpu, seems to play esports quite well. I think a lot of gamers should consider just getting something like this, or the 1050/1060, for now and waiting out the mining boom.

how is the fan on this? Can you adjust it or turn it off?
I bought the Palit 1050ti 4gb storm that was posted on here but the fan runs at 30% by default and none of the apps can lower it. Seems to be locked and finding it really annoying as its running at idle temps of 30C yet the fan is still running too high.

Im wondering if bigger graphics cards with dual fans have the same problem?

Could be a bit of a wait, if you buy one of the more expensive cards there's not much stopping most from making some coin back from mining themselves. (already made enough back to cover the cost of my 2 x 1080 I bought last summer using the same cards).

I have the "Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti D5 4GB" which is a single fan model and it turns off when idle - it is a very quiet single fan model. You could also try removing your fan and just attach a 92mm PWM case fan - control the speed via your motherboard. The GTX 1050ti doesn't need much cooling so you can run the PWM fan at a low spin speed.

You can also buy a replacement 4-pin PWM graphics card fan the same size as your existing one and then use a simple adapter to connect the smaller VGA 4-pin connector to your motherboard PWM fan socket.

Install AwesomeMiner and set up a managed profit miner for zpool, you'll be paid ~£25 worth of Bitcoin every 8-10 days with a 1080. You can swap this for pound sterling, but say you've been earning ~£10 a week of Bitcoin and kept it as Bitcoin, the £10/week you earned back in April will be worth 10x or more that amount now, and you'll still be adding ~£25 a week steady on top.

AwesomeMiner/Zpool automatically mine whatever is most valuable right now and exchange it for bitcoin automatically. Means you always earn the most possible and dont have to mess around gambling with silly other coins and what they might be worth.

Bear in mind the electricity costs.. Also Bitcoin value fluctuates.
Almost bought this last week... Got the same thing but the MSI one to match my motherboard.

so yours doesnt spin at all on idle? you sure? Cause ive read online where others have said theirs did. Only one guy mentioned that if its powering at 30% on idle at low temps then its faulty.

Thanks for mentioning those work arounds. Hmmm I will need to check my card again. I got a replacement today but not had a chance to test it yet.

The semi-passive fans will remain off when the GPU is under a set loading or temperature for low power gaming. It allows gamers to enjoy gameplay in complete silence when the system is running light or idle.\

Ashame mine doesnt do that. For example right now, all I'm doing is web browsing and I can hear the fan on the graphics card. Ive got several case fans and I can't hear a single one of them.
Ive tried the MSI afterburner and some other apps but none of them let you take it below 30%, its like 30% is the lowest setting for this card which can't be right.

I looked into it further and discovered that some brands started to block the fan control feature on their cards.
Think I might go for a gigabyte one.

I could do what you suggested but I don't see the point of messing around with a new card.

More like enjoy web browsing and media playback in complete silence. Any game with more advanced graphics than Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 should make the fans at least spin at low speed.
This a great card of anyone is upgrading thier HTPC. You might want to go for a passively cooled one though if you're bothered about noise like me.
I'm not familiar with these entry level cards but wouldn't the newer integrated cards be about the same as these? I know the 1050Ti is a great 1080p gaming card but surely the 1030 would only be capable of 720p? And in regards to media, the newer Intel and AMD integrated are strong enough these days.

It's all about performance per £.

This GT 1030 is about 30% slower than a GTX 1050 but a 1050 costs 87% more.

have you tried afterburner?
Depending on your needs this is a good value card. Its not for modern games. Anything else and this is a great value card

I purchased the Palit 1050ti which is double the price (£111) . However if you are a games player you will notice the difference - ie I save literally hours of wait time in CIV VI.

lol what?

yeah Ive tried that and some other apps. The card seems to be locked. By default its set to have the fan running at 30% regardless of it running idle and at low temp. Ive even looked into flashing the bios via nvflash but the software is outdated for that and doesnt support newer geforce cards so can't do that either.

The only solution seems to be a diy job on removing the stock cooler and adding your own.

with my old graphics card there was increasing delays whilst the AI thought, especially in the huge maps, so with a game that can take 3 days to complete, a lot of that time would be spent waiting for the AI to finish the NPC turns. With the 1050ti there is very little delay between turns for some reason which means I play more and wait less. Also in Witcher 3 I can have all the graphics maxed and still have stutter free gameplay

AI is CPU, not GPU.
Yes, the AI is CPU but as the AI manifests itself in the visual display - they are linked. So the much faster processing of the graphic representation of the AI means the AI results are much quicker.

What would the rates with a 1070 be like for about 7 hours a day? I'm considering getting one as an upgrade but I could also leave it mining whilst I'm at work as I don't pay electricity costs

Why only 7 hours?

All I can tell you is I get £3-£5 maybe a day with a 1080 running 24/7.
This may be much less or much more in a few months time, hard to tell.

Had no problems using my machine whilst mining, although admittedly I do have to stop mining if I want to play modern 3D games. Anything else though it seems fine.

I've read posts in the past from people who claim they can't watch movies, or experience laggy web browsing etc, when GPU mining. They'll plug the monitor into motherboard socket instead to make use of onboard graphics whilst GPU is busy mining. Never had a problem myself though, doesn't seem to make a difference to web browsing etc for me.

What version of a 1080 you using?

It's an ASUS Strix three-fan 1080, says 'Republic of Gamers' on it, I think it's the A8G
Incase anyone needs to know....
Fan minimum speed is 30 % runs around 1400 rpm is loud for HTPC.

Think will have to stick a resistor init .. hopefully has a push connector and not solder... Will have to check
