Good find!
Note that you'll have to wait over a week for it to be in stock again, but very good price. Nice to see the prices of 1060's coming down again

Prime only

That's a bummer. Cheeky Amazon, it wasn't a Prime exclusive when I posted!
Overkill for my PC?

Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D-E LX
CPU: I7-870 2.93Ghz
RAM: 16gb

Alternatives? 1050 TI 4gb?

Thanks!
Is this a massive improvement on a GTX 970?

It will go well with that PC. I know the i7 870 is old now. But I don't think it will bottleneck the 1060. The 1060 is a much better card to be honest and worth the extra money. However, If you keep to 1080p then maybe consider the 1060 3GB. Zotac Mini can be had for under £190.

Prime only but yeah great deal. I bought this off an amazon seller who turned out to be a scammer. Ended up getting refunded and purchased the Zotac 1060 6gb instead.

A stock 1060 is about 15-20% faster than a stock 970.

as an upgrade no, problem is the 1070 is over £100 more for the itx models. for me gpu market is pointless atm for value, unless desperate stay the **** away, and wait, maybe new yr. unless you have the readies and dont mind overpaying, then spend spend spend
I’m sorry for my lack of knowledge but how different is this graphic card compared to this one ? amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1 Is it only the memory available ? Thank you
Thanks, think i'll wait for a 1070 TI now. Shame this is Prime only too..

I don't suggest cards under 4gb for 1080p, 6gb is the best bet for the 1060 as games are increasingly having higher VRAM usage every year and the 6gb version is better overall, performs better and has more CUDA cores than the 3gb one

there's a slight improvement from a gtx 970, but only about 15-20%,,,, probably not worth the upgrade as the difference would be minimal, if you're looking for a decent upgrade, go for the 1070 or 1080 (if affordable) especialy as the TI versions are coming out soon so prices on the standards will be dropping.

the 970 is still a decent card for 1080p gaming, and probably will be good for a while yet.
heres a comparision...

The 3gb 1060 is slightly (~5%) slower than the 6gb version. (Due to having 10% of its cuda cores disabled)

Vram requirements are tied closely to detail level & resolution, and while it's likely future games will require more vram, games will also require more compute power to utilise that additional vram.

So games that utilise more than 3gb of vram at a given detail level are unlikely to run fast enough (60fps) at that detail level on *any* 1060.

I own the 6gb 1060, but I paid £178 for it, and at the time that was less than £20 more than the 3gb version.
If you game at 1080p 60fps, the 6gb isn't worth £50 more than the 3gb version.

If you game above 1080p, get a 1070 or 1080.
Better yet, get nothing and wait; GPU prices are trending downwards again.

I remember people telling me the same when I bought my 270X. The extra 2GB literally made 0 difference in any games.

@ocelot20 I have a good 4k that it's hooked up to but presume my processor and MB will need replaced - at which point, aren't you moving into the realms of a whole new PC (which isn't an option)?

You won't be doing much 4K gaming with a 1050TI or a GTX 1060. You will need a GTX 1080 or a 1080TI or a Titan for decent 4K gaming.

If you can overclock the i7 a little that will help a little. But I think a 1060 is probably the fastest GPU you can pair with that i7 with bottleneck. If you was to pair a 1070 or higher then the i7 would bottleneck the GPU. So yer if you want 4K gaming then a GTX 1080 or 1080TI is needed. But you would also need a faster CPU and a new motherboard which you have mentioned is not an option.

The 1060 will be great for 1080p gaming and maybe even 1440p.

I think a 1070 is enough for that.
£240 for Asus seems a good price. OC still has stock. Amazon up to £283 now.

For 4K gaming? I suppose it would if you lowered some settings.

What do you think of all talk around the 3GB version, that 3GB VRAM will become a drawback over the long term?

Will a 1080p game never be limited by 3GB VRAM?

Askign for a friend
I bought a 6GB 1060 recently, and the best thing i did was to buy an Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo II (though others are available ). Temps and noise are both much better (ie 20 degrees cooler under load, whilst very quiet still)
PS good find VL3, well done

But OCUK have £10 delivery

I would have gone for this deal as I have Prime, but that £10 cuts too deep
Okay didn't realise they charged £9.90 for delivery. A tad bit too much. If you post regularly on their forum it's free postage. 250 posts? So might be good for others. In any case this deal is expired as price £277.
Ye I thought £9.90 for delivery was bad, but I still ordered it anyway after not finding a discount code or free delivery

You can buy it new for £13 more. The 3gb card is clocked down on so many fronts other than memory. This is the mini version.

The Overclockers price has gone up £8-9.

You can get the Evra 1060 for circa £254. Not a brilliant price as it is the smaller version.

The Zotac Mini is £229 at Amazon. 1060 6gb.
