Not saying this is a bad deal, but you can usually pick up a similar medion gaming laptop with a 1060 6GB for about £850 - 900. Of course, this is available now and possibly is built to a higher standard, so it might well be worth the extra money.

Also, mining on a laptop with a 1060 6gb? Definitely not worthwhile! You won't make much at all and laptops are terrible for long term excessive use. Most mining rigs these days have at least 4/5 desktop GPUs.

Good deal.
Nice but noone in their right mind would ever mine with a laptop. The wear and tear and strain on it would hasten its demise

Do the Medion laptops have G Sync as a feature?

What are some options you feel are better? I've been considering a laptop with about this spec ever since Nvidia's 1060 cards started appearing in laptops .

Another thing I have been wondering about is AMD's plans for the next gen of Ryzen powered laptops with discrete graphics. Anyone else thinking about that option?

That is what I thought as I was actually comparing a few Medion ones to this 15.6 and the 17.3 version of the Asus. Thought for the extra £50 and the point it is much lower than most [scan reduced to £1199 on this model] anywhere else, it was worth posting for those that may have missed the Medion or fancy more for less

Maybe so, but I am in my right mind, along with lots of others that like a bit of fun... as for the wear and tear, not had any issues to speak of, other than some tiptop samsung ram that was twice the price of the cheap stuff, failing after 16 months, replaced it with some kingston value and been rock solid since

Not gaming in general! If it is sitting there doing nothing, might as well get it on the hive and have a bit of fun mining at the same time

Could not find a branded make with better for less than a grand, hence the thread, not interested in the 15.6's personally as looking at the 17.3's. Nothing came up with this quality, at less than £1100 with hardware like this one. Having another look to see if there is, as not sure how long this will be in stock with this price drop.
It's all fun and games mining on a laptop until the system board fails and you're left with a very expensive paperweight. At least with mining on a desktop the gpu can be replaced if it fails.

Really, I thought it was pretty much all ASICS?
This is a very good deal. I’d spend a little more on this over a Medion, for the better screen, components and support.

I've got a similar one but my advice, avoid for now. Intel has a problem with their processors causing massive reductions in performance (30%). Start up time goes up from 5seconds to 2 minutes

Depends, some cryptos are ASIC resistant, eg eth.

Not strictly a true comment also not just intel. 30% very worst case. for most of the chips out there it would be a small drop. Plus 5 seconds to 2 minutes for a 30% drop. That’s not quick maths, big shaq would be disappointed.

In my circumstances,it hardly ever turns on without a drain. When the laptop does finally boot and gets to the password screen, there's not much of a performance problem.
The i7-7700HQ would have been better in this laptop and a 17" screen.
Not voting.

I suspect it must be, but can anyone confirm the G-Sync screen is an IPS panel?
Ordered yesterday at 950. Says it too late to cancel order, have emailed Amazon asking for price difference to be refunded. If not it says can refuse delivery and have it refunded that way.
By then it will probably be back up to £1000
