excellent review here

Argh I just ordered the HD 6850 for 135. Worth paying the extra for this?

Short answer, yes

It's about half way down in the super savers section

Superb =). I got a 5850 for £130 which i'll keep for a year, but if I still had my old 4890 I would have gone for this.

Oh no, bought this card a month ago. Take care with drivers and Asus overclocking software. Check out Asus forums. Found I had to remove the driver and software they provided and let windows put driver on and downloaded MSI Afterburner. Performance is good getting 150 FFS in Far Cry 2.

Cheers guys!

How do you go about getting the free delivery by being a member of avforums?

This seems rather tempting! Thanks to Zurich too for the awesome XLabs review, bloody hell they're thorough!

I'm behind on my hardware, but would I be correct in concluding from the review that this card is a very good card to start with, being only slightly under or drawing equal it's rival (The GeForce GTX 560 Ti) out of the box, and that this card should be purchased purely for it's sheer overclocking potential? It was easy to be dismayed at the end of the review to read the benchmark results, however upon remembering a little tinkering would result in it easily trapsing the 560 ti soon elated me once again!

If only I had money... That finance option looks tempting!

Is this worth upgrading to from my 4890?

Urgh, this or spend 50 quid more to get the Geforce 560 ti. If I hadn't had so many ATi's burn out in the past (no overclocking) then i'd have an easier decision!

I'm stuck in the middle, anyone have any oppinions on this 6870 or a 295 GTX? Which would you go for?

6870? . 295 is old right? might have power but only direct x 10?

According to this:

techpowerup.com/rev…tml

GTX 295 is around 10% faster but I've never seen one around the £150 mark and it is much less efficient than the 6870. If you have to pay £250 (the cheapest I saw in a quick look) I reckon there are better, newer options.

Thanks

if you go by the passmark score you should see about a 50% improvement in performance. whether you think that's worth an upgrade is up to you. , though you will get directx11 and it will probably be cooler and quieter too.

yeah it's tough to choose at the mo. the 560 looks like a cracking card but so does the 6950 for about the same price (some of which can be unlocked to get a 6970).

I'm able to get the GTX 295 for £100 from a mate of mine.

But maybe having Direct X 11 will be better and more worth while?

Absolutely! I think i'll be doing my usual thing - make my laptop last me until BF3 comes out then buy a card in the autumn. Really like the look of the 2500k paired with the 560/6950

For those thinking of spending just that 'little bit more', how about a GTX 480 for just over £200?!

Serious performance and 'better' than a GTX 560 Ti, Scan have several but this Asus comes with Farcry 2 for free!

Thought you'd all appreciate that; you know - to make your decision even easier

personally I'd still go for the GTX 295 - at that price, if you decide you want a DirectX 11 card 6 months down the line, you could almost certainly sell it on Ebay for what you paid for it, probably more. As long as the card is in good condition, I don't think you can lose and you may well find it suits your needs for quite some time to come, even without DirectX 11.

Just my opinion, though.

Erm it's £167 ?

That might of been the case for the 400 series cards but the 500 are superior in every way including heat and voltage.

hexus.net/con…=14

As you can see it is much better then the old generation.

Yeah but he was talking about the 400 series.

Damn. My 9800GX2 has unfortunately died after 4 years but my mobo is only PCI-E 2.0 not 2.1, looks like i'll have to miss out on this deal.

Super alloy? Sounds like the kinda thing you'd find in Terminator

Why pay just over £200 when that Asus GTX 480 is the card above the 6870 on the Today Only page... at £189.59...

Considering upgrading from my 4870 1GB to this
