Of course it's a dual-core i7, so not of any great significance. Would hate for people to buy this thinking they were getting something like an actual i7.

Yeah I’ve just got the XPS 13 with 8th gen proper quad core. Better getting i5 8th gen due to mm it is only for short periods of power but any none HQ i7 7th gen laptop over £400 is a tough sell now.

Just make sure it’s UK stock. If it’s not, ASUS will refuse all warranty claims, stating that their products have a regional warranty only.
They would not budge an inch when I tried to return under warranty.

Isn't it the retailer who's responsible for accepting returns not the manufacturer? resolver.co.uk/con…nts

Sorry not sure what you mean by this. This is an i7 Processor according to the retailer, is it not ?

Yes, this is an i7 in this laptop. I think what he/she is trying to say is that the i7-7500U is actually a dual-core processor. Out of the older Core i7s, only those ending in HQ/MQ/UQ are quad-core. The new 8th generation i5s (Core i5-8xxx) are quad-core and at the same TDP as the ones they replace. So, these would be much better than previous dual-core i7s.

Case in point, from cpubenchmark:
i7-7500U @ 2.70GHz, Average CPU Mark 5216, Single Thread Rating: 1933
i5-8250U @ 1.60GHz, Average CPU Mark 7514, Single Thread Rating: 1916
