Seems like a pretty decent spec for a gaming laptop if you also want to benefit from the hyperthreading of the i7 (almost like having 8 cores).

ASUS Gaming FX553VD-DM595T

  • Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad Core Processor
  • 15.6" Full HD Screen
  • Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit

  • 128GB SSD + 1000GB HDD
  • DVD Rewriter
  • Dedicated GeForce GTX 1050 4GB Graphics
  • USB3 | HDMI | Bluetooth |
  • Backlit Keyboard
  • FX553VD-DM595T

Only thing that would make this better - 16gb memory

What's the general feel on Asus laptops these days?
Tempted. Mainly to use for video editing and other normal tasks, no gaming. Anything that would do the job at a lower cost, or is this the one to go for??
ASUS have just come second after ACER (in laptopmag) as being the best computer manufacturer in 2017. Knocked Apple clean off the top spot. Asus are generally better built than say MSi, but whilst some retailers will offer a 2 yr warranty on MSi they generally only offer 1 yr on Asus.

Interesting, as I was also after something mainly for video editing, and I figured the hyperthreaded quad core i7 would be much better than the non-hyperthreaded i5s on most of the 700-800 quid gaming laptops. It should be almost twice as fast at multi-core encoding?

I still haven't bought anything yet, but I'm quite tempted by this one; but then again, I'd be interested in playing the occasional game, too.

I've been tempted by a Dell - the only problem with the Dell is no rewriter - plus Ive always had this thing about Dell's

Same as me - with the exception of playing games - if it was 16gb it'd be a no brainer
we got this exact machine from this exact place for this exact price, and are pleased with it. would recommend.

A i7 would be much more beneficial yes, I've tried editing with a i5 and I didn't have fun with it

Thought Acer came fifth or maybe even lower and I'm sure Lenovo won the best brand
Banned
I would not buy ASUS again!

Was that not the survey that included LeapPad and V-Tech?
So, before I buy, anything better for the price??
Also, ips or tn panel? Reviews contradict each other and not stated in the specs as far as I can see. Thanks
Tempted by this. Ive been looking for a laptop for video editing for a while now. Is it worth spending the extra £100 for the 1050ti model with full colour backlight? What's the different in specs?

You have to be patient although it took me a day to secure mine go to the 15% off thread on HUKD. You'll get the extra 15 off

Then there's time on there that they update stock, the site is very buggy - for mine in particular it kept taking it out of the cart... saying it's gone but when I came back 30 mins later to the same laptop it was there and somehow it let me checkout. Weird bugged website but you'll easily save 300-500 quid and people that have got it from there say that the laptops are normally so immaculate although it says "scratch and dent" they find none.

Hope that helps.
