I thought this seemed like a decent deal, though I am not a computer spec expert!

It is a refurb with 12 month warranty but seems to have a fairly good spec to it compared to others I have seen round the same price.

Seems to be the lowest price its been when this laptop has been on sale before.

Personally i think its a good price so heat, but just lately im seeing more and more of these deals with decent Ram and HDD but the CPU's are lousy....Celeron is bad enough but a dual core Celeron.....
<:-s

The B820 cpu in this isn't that bad if you look on cpu comparison lists, it can also be upgraded to various sandybridge and ivybridge processors, if you are happy taking off the plastics and screen.

Intel® Core™ i7 3610QM Processor
Intel® Core™ i5 3210M Processor
Intel® Core™ i3 3110M Processor

Are all supported by the chipset.

For a refurb with a poor CPU, this isn't a great deal - I wouldn't go for less than a B960 CPU & also the suggestion that it can be replaced may not be correct - my Asus model (X401A) has reports on the net of it shutting down every half hour for no known reason when the CPU is upgraded (possibly intentional bios code).

EDIT: Link to info on x401A & 30 min issue: forum.notebookreview.com/har…tml

You can actually get an i5 version though of the K55a

And the i7 version has been posted on here before hotukdeals.com/dea…e=2

£30 more (after cashback) buys / bought recently a HP new with an i3 cpu. Would expect this celeron new to be around £250 max,.

Add to this I've had nothing but hassle with Argos refurb laptops so cold from me.

3.19kg! It's like a tank.

good luck removing the cpu from the mainboard, are these not soldered in

Nah, it's pretty straightforward. I learned to do it years ago with the old celeron M laptops, and replaced them with core 2 duos. Some of the Centrinos/Pentium M were soldered in though.

I would stay away from them as it had a bug with the nvidia card not working as it should do.look on forums with loads of unhappy users.

Heres a video of a similar process of how it's done from a pentium to an i5 on an acer

I wasn't recommending them, just showing that the chipset supports the cpus natively.

Did not say you was mate just saying it's a dog.

That's a pity, Asus used to be one of the more reliable manufacturers.

LOL I can't argue with that. I meant you can get them in general with those processors, but I'm sure you knew that.

You may be right, but that is EXACTLY is the same thinking employed in the thread I posted, with the same manufacturer; not saying you are wrong - just have a read & decide if you think it worth the risk.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a non-Windows 8 PC. Upgrade, fine. But if you're spending money, spend it right.

Who on earth still uses Celeron processors these days! Sorry, COLD deal...

Not Haswell.

great deal but it has Windows 8 Operating System with entirely different interface which does put me off big time! I would have bought this if it came with Windows 7 OS.

I bought the K55 I7 running win7 when it was posted on here before xmas under 400 quid. Not a moments bother from it and it's a rapid system, admittedly i don't run high end games through it, only fm13 and the walking dead upto now but for that and other gen work tasks and browsing and netflix and music it's been great.

Would only consider this at this price if it was brand new, even then i probably wouldn't purchase it as its too slow. i rather get a used Intel Core i5 520M laptop for this price, which is alot faster than this.

yes an Intel® Core™ i3 3110M Processor would have been ideal.

What's the point of having Windows 8 at all?

ChampionshipManager

I see what your saying but it is even more useless with no touchscreen

I realise I'm a bit late to the party but I'd just like to say that I bought a laptop from the Argos Outlet with a certain spec (Acer Aspire 725) but they sent me a totally different really lower spec laptop (Acer PAV70, I found out it was called).

So don't trust the spec here guys when I had a look at the Argos Outlet feedback there were a few people who experienced the same problem that I had.
