If you are going to play games like the ones mentioned you are probably better off looking for one with a gpu.

In 2020, a TN panel at this price point is garbage, honestly. Asus and their questionable build quality and choices.

Why can't we get the Motile laptops here, or something similar?

It doesn't seem that bad for a laptop at that price...

Should handle sim games.

My son still plays Fortnite on a Ryzen 3 2200g.

I can't recommend this for gaming, unless its some very very low usage games. Also due to coronavirus major tech companies are at 15% production, some at 0. Prices are going to go up so buy sooner than later
Just can't recommend this to anyone, TN panel dealbreaker and okayish processor
Happily running Borderlands 2, Pillars of Eternity, Shadow of Mordor, etc. on a 2500U so I'm sure this will run plenty of games on sensible settings.

What is the screen like on it though? From the marketing guff they are sort of implying the screen is a positive, or is it a 178 degree viewing angle of barely visible greyed out screen then?
Aquacadabra05/03/2020 09:59

This. Vega 8 is a super capable mobile GPU.

So you saying this laptop should be decent on lower setting for gaming? Plus doing all the other casual office tasks. Sorry but when it comes to laptops I'm clueless. But wanted something I can also play games on.

Thanks for your help everyone who has replied so far

Sims is old, so will run better than these much newer titles.

Looks fine for the money, just googling the processor other laptops are £100 more.

Ok thanks for looking. I meant as in Sim type games like Jurassic world evolution, two point hospital etc. But either way would want other games to run too wouldn't mind paying abit more if spec is quite diff and better.

Did you see the laptop I mentioned in the other thread. If you want to game then you will want to spend a bit more (at least £600) if you get something like this games will "work" but they will be slow, low resolution and really you will just want to forget about gaming and use something else like a ps4 which will give you a far better experience. Dell outlet is a decent place to look for laptops. The best value for your money at the moment are laptops with a gtx 1650. You might also be able to find older laptops with a gtx 1050 ti which was the previous gens best value entry gpu.

To give you an idea a laptop with a 1050 ti will give about 3x the performance of the graphics on this laptop and a 1650 is about 30% better again (so about 4x this) with a 1050 ti you can happily play games at 1080p with nice settings

the dell outlet is a good place to check, for example using code DOSPSG14 they have the following spec for £583.08

  • Dell Outlet G3 15 - 3590 Gaming Laptop
  • Intel Core 9th Generation i5-9300H Processor (Quad Core, Up to 4.10GHz, 8MB Cache, 45W)
  • 8GB (2X4GB) 2666MHz DDR4 Non-ECC
  • 512GB PCIe M.2 NVMe Class 35 Solid State Drive
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5
  • 15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-glare LED Backlit Narrow Border WVA Screen

It's not as thin and light as this and the battery will likely not last as long but that is one of the disadvantages of buying a powerful laptop.

I have a HP laptop with a Ryzen 3 2200u and I can play Sims 4 1080p at medium settings comfortably. Can play world of warships and Surviving Mars. I saw your comment about the games you want to play. You'll be fine. However recommend adding another 8GB of ram as it will boost performance.
This seems to tick a lot of my boxes on my laptop hunt. Are there any football manager players here? The main reason I want a new laptop is so that I can play FM20 (plus at least the next 4 or 5 versions) with 8-10 leagues loaded as playable and also a huge database for players. Anyone know if these specs would handle this to the point where the game moves at a fast speed? Sick of having to wait 30 seconds or more everytime I hit continue!
Not going too off topic for the last 17 years i have only ever bought Lenovo/ ibm think pad this is the first time i am considering anything else and after searching for a long while i will be getting the asus zen book duo they are fantastic
How are Amazon for open-box laptop returns? I’d need to see how naff the screen is in person.
